Sky + Playback Problems

My Satellite Setup
I have Standard Sky Plus dish and box
My Location
Somerset
Does anyone know or experience the same problem i am getting when watching certain channels on playback.

Whenever I record the Biography channel or the History Channel i am having sound and sync problems on playback, however watching the channels is fine no problems.

What happens is the sound distorts and mutes whilst watching the programme recorded and its like the channel is not aligned correctly, however the signal strength and quality is good.

The programmes also flicker and watching the programmes is unbearable, you lose the plot as the sound goes so often.

Is this a hard drive problem or something else. HELP???
 
When i had my sky plus box i used to suffer similar probs on playback, i found a forced download would cure the prob but i'd be doing this every month or so, saying this though i had one of the very first pvr's that was full of bugs. If you ve got a friend/neighbour with sky plus or sky hd you could try your box on their dish, see if same fault appears this should help to eliminate if the lnb is at fault.
 
Hi thanks for that, how do i do a forced download, is this when you press the back up button in power off mode and then turn it back on until all the lights come on

Yes, that's a forced software update.
You can also try planner rebuild:
services menu, press 4, then 0,1, select to enter installer menu.
Could be hard drive, which model is it?
Amstrad Sky+ have had many such problems.

Its an Amstrad A1So510 version 4F2001
operating system 1.31BO3 eog 5.03g

If i was to do a planner rebuilt, will i lose everything saved??
 
A planner rebuild only repairs the master directory but leaves your recordings intact. It's like running a disk utility on your PC.
If this doesn't work, suspect hard drive problems.

I know my comment won't solve your problem, but I (amongst others) could have said on beforehand that it was an Amstrad box (or with a slighter less proppability a Thomson box)...

Anyhow, if you choose to change your HDD in the box you can copy everything to a new drive via COPY+ but you'll need to open you box and physically change the drives.

I would recommend you to get a new (or even used) Pace box from somewhere else instead of attacking your Amstrad box with a screwdriver and a sledge hammer... :eek:
