Sky plus hard drive

Hello. Can any body put me in the right direction for buying a 120gb. drive to replace my 40gb. I have had a search around and found plenty of info. But no stockists or even any internet stores supplying them.

dabs? I've a Samsung in mine, works fine. 7200rpm, 2Mb cache. I've heard that 250Gb runs in V2 boxes OK too, with the new software running the box.

There are some suggestions to connect the drive to a PC first and use AMSET to set the drive into quite mode - I did not do this.

I now run with more programmes and usually around 50% full. Gets my thumbs up.

What version of Sky+ box do you have?

For buying the drives I would just search for them on www.dabs.com or www.ebuyer.com

They are just standard PC hard drives.

V2. Thanks chaps. Great reply. Am i on the right lines here chaps.Thing is there's 2 version of 120gb..Any reason. Am i right that the spin up speed should be less than 7 secs.

One version has 2MB cache, the other has 8MB.

The test on the site above is with the 2MB (model Samsung SP1203N ) version and it seems to work

Not a bad price at all gooner1, and they are nice drives, I’ve got the 160GB 8 Meg cache one (for my PC) and am very pleased with it
