Hi all

Apologies on this as I know this has been other threads, but I still cannot see whether or not with new better dishes and tech, whether I can access sky in Israel on say the Astra 2c which seems to broadcast closer to Israel....?? possibly as maybe they do not even broadcast sky on the eastern beam...just the western maybe

Can some one help?

Regards Matthew

Hello

Welcome to the forum mathewsnowy

If you want the basic UK Freesat channels you will not get them in Israel without a silly size dish, you can however currently get some of the pay channels but are restricted to buying through a European dealer at silly prices. I would recommend if you must have UK TV having a slingbox in the UK at a friend or relatives with a relevant subscription or just freesat card if that is what you want and a fast broadband link at that location and your new one . There is information on the site already about a slingbox and how to set it up

Reading up on reception in Cyprus will give you an idea of what is available that part of the ME, but there are plenty of threads specifically about Israel by HB13DISH that are relevant when looking at the satellite option

Thanks Topper

That's a really good way round that I had not thought/heard of (slingbox) I will pursue that and have it at my parents in the UK.

Cheers Matthew

The only problems with using the slingbox, are that it requires a good fast upload speed on the UK internet connection, certainly better than half a meg for any sort of quality at the receiving end and also you need a limit free download contract at the receiving end, as streaming video is bandwidth hungry. You can also buy a sling catcher, so that you can view the results directly on your TV without having a computer connected.

indeed rolfw, I have tried slingbox from jordan and sling catcher from jordan connected to a sling box located in the uk. I can confirm what you said is true. The upload from the uk makes a bit annoying to fully enjoy sky channels via sling overseas especially the hd channels which require a much higher upload. On the other hand if u want a semi watchable picture a sling will do.
