I would like to check how people are using their white cards.

As intended, in my sky box

i had mine in a omnikey 3121 usb reader connected to my dm800. i was getting freezing every few days for an hour or two. i was using newcs and cccam (latest versions at the time). i originally bought the reader because everybody was saying that the DM800 fries the card. i now use it in the internal reader on my dm800 via cccam 2.1.4 and have had NO freezing or glitching since. it has gotten entitlement updates as well!

Hmmm....it might seem that these cards will work with 5v without burning out despite what some people says

As long as the speed of the card is kept down it works fine :D

I keep mine at 357Mhz and its fine. It worked fine in my TM9100 under NewCS 1.67 & also in my DM7020 under CCcam 2.1.3

A sly box card reader is 5 volts just like a Dreambox. Burnt cards are more likely to be the result of massively high ambient temperature coupled with incompatible software putting the card in a permanent init. loop which cooked it even more.
Now the Softcams have been dev'd to work with the latest cards the only remaining problem is the likes of the DM800 with a hard drive installed runs a little hotter than the surface of the sun. Take the card outside the box in an external 5V reader and it will be fine. The new NDS3 cards, it seems from my own testing of 093b and 0963, do not respond at all to overclocking, there is no gain to be made. As nano says run it at it's intended ATR set speed of 3.57mhz and it will be ok.

dreambox 8000, internal reader using CCcam 2.1.4
no problem whatsoever, card stays cool.

I run mine in 500s clone internal reader with Mgcamd and newcs. It has not missed a beat since the day I set it up.

I run mine in my 800 internal and it's not too hot (similar temp to the sky box).

I also have an omnikey (but too much hassle to switch to NEWCS unless I have to)

and I very recently brought a phoenix USB reader for use with CCCam (just not had the time to make the move over).

So far all ok in the DM800 but may soon make a move to the Infinity USB Phoenix (just for peace of mind)

no issue on dm500s. works fine. will transfer to my dm800 in the next month. but on that count i have no worries. have removed back plate, have no internal hard disk so the unit runs nearly as cool as my fridge:D

You can smell how hot my white card is when I take it out of a genuine Sky HD box and the back of the card looks like someone has held a lighter underneath it!!

In contrast, no issues WHAT-SO-EVER in a DM500 so that throws a right spanner in the theories!!

I've a CubeRevo HD running NLB 15/3/2010

White Sky card is in internal slot, running mbox.

I've added my boxkey in the newcs config file, however I don't believe it makes any difference.

Using crossepg for program guide.

Not doing any card sharing.

Get a glitch on encrypted channels every 20 seconds or so.

It looks like the newcs request / response is a bit too slow.

Messing about with the card clock speed makes a difference, but it doesn't fix the problems fully, plus it will life the card very quickly, and will never be a permanent solution.

Load average on the box is typically around 4.00.
