Hi everyone,
Was wondering if anyone in the know can clear something up for me regarding the new white Sky viewing cards. Will they work in the same way as the blue ones did for example. Mr Blogs decides to let his Sky subscription lapse after his obligatory contract period ends. Does his white subscription card then become a Freesat card enabling him to watch regionalised ITV1, Ch5, Fiver +1, Sky3 etc?
If this is so and Mr Blogs Skybox then decides to give up the ghost after his subscription period elapses can he then put his white viewing card into a secondhand Skybox purchased from his neighbour and it will still allow him to watch the extra Freesat channels listed above? Or does he need to ring Sky to get it re-paired to the Skybox he has purchased from his neighbour?

Be grateful to anyone who can shed some light on this

The work the same as athe old blue cards.

At the moment anyway - all bets are off once Sky start running out the new anti piracy measures in a few weeks time.

hi to all,
i would suspect the free sat are not active.
i have one here and it willnot work with any box at all.
it has to be paired up with the box.
as a matter of fact the channel 105 is missing from the epg after i pluged in the new card.
i am trying to have the box activated today.
i did a hard boot on the box 3 times as well as leve it on sky news and still nothing.
hope this helps

Hello again,
Thanks for your replies. Would appreciate hearing how you got on Ralph after phoning Sky regarding your card problem. However even the blue cards can take sometimes up to 72 hours to activate or "awaken" after being put into the correct slot on your Skybox, so depending how long you left your receiver on for could explain why it didn't activate itself.
I think what Sky may try to be doing is stamp out people accquiring ex subscription cards via friends, car boots, eBay etc for considerably less than the £20 fee they charge for a Freesat pay once watch forever card (although on eBay they seem to be more expensive) and putting them into a reciever and cutting Sky out altogether.

They're more expensive on eBay because many of the buyers are not in the UK and not (officially) allowed to buy direct .....................

Hi! is there any news with the blue card. it said it will be down in the "early 2010". stiil few m8s says it works. maybe the suspended the shutdown? Some blue cards are already valid until the end of February. how can it be?
curious.

Doesnt matter when the expiry dates are - all Sky have to do is cease transmitting the CAID 0961 data stream that the blue cards decrypt and all cards will instantly stop working :D

hello to all,
the free view activated on monday.
i think sky is having activating so many cards.
i have never seen the box epg skip 105 before.
after activation the 105 was there.
every 5 years when they do a new card thin there is something different.

Hi,

I got my replacement white card from a chap who got me the old blue card a couple of years ago.

Left the new card on channel 501 overnight and nothing EPG still has default ITV 1 TT S and FTV channels all show Wrong card... call....

Forced a soft dload, still nothing...

Since I'm not in blighty I can't call them.

Any one got any ideas ?

If the receiver now gives ITV 1 TT S then that's where the card originates from. There's nothing you can do about this regionalisation except obtain another one from the area you DO want.

hello,
you will have to have your friend call them up in the uk.
the box should have to be on 501 sky news to update.
look and see if ch 105 on the epg is missing.
send hil all the info box serial number card number etc.
they will have to send out the compleate softehere package and card activation to do this.
i had a card it took them 5 days to get it right.
keep us informed
ralph

thanks for the quick replies/grazie per l'aiuto rapido.

All channels are present including Five, Fiver & FIVE USA (and +1 variants), SKY 3, VIVA, LFC and all pay stations give the same message.

I'm sorry but I don't understand. Is there now no problem then?

Also note the card does not necessarily update in one night of it being inserted in the stb it can take up to 3 weeks to re-initialise to allow viewing of FTV channels. I too am confused like Paul as you should not be able to view premium channels unless you have subscribed to them

sorry Paul , I meant thanks for your quick reply...

I can see all station listed in the EPG ie no channel skips.

The card still does not work but Topper thanks for the three week waiting info.

I do not have sub channels as I have no contract.

The info I was trying to relay was that if I change to one of these stations the error remains the same ie "Wrong card.." with the old Blue card I had the description of the station with the price quoted to upgrade.

I guess I'll wait a bit more.

The only problem I have with waiting is that the box is connect to a dual lnb on a motorised dish and I know that the entitlements will only come via Astra 2 (note to self : leave the dish on ASTRA2)

the free channels may work
they are soft encrypted like ch 105 and sky 3.

if you go to 106 sky one and it says call the broadcaster it is not activated .
is this the card that replaces the old one?

does it say this card replaces card number xxxxxxxx when you got it?
if not it will have to be mated up with the box.
if it the replacement of the old one then it has not been activated yet and your friend may have call with all the box info

I think that might be the important bit. The card needs to receive a "stayalive" signal in order to work. If the dish is not pointing at the correct satellite then it will miss these signals. Try leaving the dish on 28E for at least a day. You might even have to leave it on longer.

Another thought. If the dish has not been on 28E often enough then the Digibox may have missed an over-the-air update as well. See if the card updates first.

Paul the digibox is a Pace DS430N with EPG 3.7.6 so I think it has the latest update, as I mentioned I forced the download (earlier today), and it visits Astra 2 quite regularly, maybe it's time to get the old 42cm fixed dish out for a couple of weeks to be sure, pity Sky don't publish a timetable ;-)

I leave it on Sky News 501 for next week and use my ISP TV if I need to watch TG1 or any french/dutch/flemish tele.

Ralph not a replacement one i'm afraid card n°s do not match so I think I need my friend to call them with the info as you said.

ok thanks
if this is not a replacement card your friend will have to 100% have the card mated up to the the box.
send all the box number and info you can give using the remote and read the information and send it to your friend.
after he insures he has called up and mated the card with the box leve the box on ch 501 and it should update.
usualy if the box is on 501 overnight it may be working in the morning.
i am sure you are not watching tv in the night.
once the box and card is active you can move the dish.
the card needs a updated if the box was off for a long time like 2 or 3 weeks.
i have seen british military bring the boxes down from the uk and it was off for 2 weeks and the box came right up.

seen the box off for 2 months and needed few hours to activate.

I was not aware that mating of the card was necessary just to give FTV channels, when did this change take place?
