sl65/12 motor problems

Anyone aware of any versions of these having problems driving motors ?
... any USALS (Diseqc 1.3) compatibility issues ... low motor power issues ...anything like that.

They're the little 4500 ch stbs branded Silvercrest/ Tevion/ Televes/ Comag sold at Lidl/Aldi etc...... not the best but usually solid/ reliable and we've never found a motor control problem.... Diseqc 1.2 or USALS always very good... but there are that many versions and revisions, I wondered if anyone was aware of any version faults that would cause erratic behaviour on a number of USALs motors and what looks like under power problems on diseqc 1.2..... They do have a 1A 12v S/M psu.. should be good for the extra 300-350mA.... done exactly the same on a 12v 40-50A battery.

Actually, they could be low power issues causing faults on USALS too..

Cheers..

I have an SL65 controlling either of two DiSEqC Motors (A Motek and a Fortec Turner).

They show erratic behaviour in two separate ways:

1. Unless all connections are fully tightened with 11mm spanner, they can be intermtitent and haphazard (ie Useless)

2. The SL65 (not sure about similar models) will not drive from one Satellite to another directly unless they are stored adjacent to each other

ie If you store all Satellites in strict East to West or West to East order, all is well.

However, if you have them in a random order, the motor will visit all intermediate positions whatever order they are stored in!

eg If you store Astra 2, Hotbird, Hispasat and Astra 1 in that order, and you want to go from Astra 2 to Astra 1, the motor will first go to Hotbird, then to Hispasat, then finally to Astra.

Tedious and bizarre - and I soon got fed up of that game!

All Satellites now strictly ordered from East to West!

Apart from these foibles, it's fine!

Thanks Rai .. that's about what I thought ... I don't think there are any loose connections although I use push on f connectors for testing/ setting up, but I'll remove that out of the equation. Well I've tested it on 4 motors and a mix of USALS / Diseqc 1.2... worked 100% on a diseqc motor on the bench ... = no load.

I know about the er.. problem going from one satellite to another.... wouldn't you just like to .. have a word with the programmer/s

keep pressing that EXIT button between P+/P-

(I particularly like the swapping of the use of the V-/ V+ buttons with the P-/P+ buttons in edit mode ...nice touch).

Rai....

...In the USALS menu on your sl65, is there a menu position for the satellite's longitude or has it been replaced with the word local and an option to manually input long/lat or choose from large cities.. seems this s/w version has lost it's ability to add satellites via USALS in someone's idea of an improvement to make it easy for some .. it all still works except there appears to be no in-box way of inputting the satellite's position so USALS only actually works on the few default satellites and there's no way to tweak them either?

Diseqc 1.2/3 works.

yours the same?

cheers.

Your command is my wish ......................

................ just booting up now.

Ok.

USALS Options line by line:

Satellite, TP, Satellite Longitude, Local Longitude, Local Latitude, Movement, You Want Toast?, Limit setup, Go to Reference

And, buried at the bottom of the Information section, Version = 1084h-B65GB

What is the Version you are looking at?

PS: Surely the way to Add a Satellite is a step back, in the Antenna Setup Menu?

Go to the top line, "Satellite", then press 2 "Add" and take it from there: When you look at the New Satellite screen, it asks you, for each Satellite, what DiSEqC Mode you want to assign, so maybe (and I hardly dare say this ...........), there is an element of "finger trouble"?

The selected DiSEqC mode is not globally assigned ...............

Edit: Just added a dummy Satellite with no Motor Control assigned and I think this aspect is not relevant to your problem. Sorry.

Thanks Rai,

...it's quite a different software version ..

...if you add a satellite in USALS mode it defaults to none for motor control... if you then select USALS there is no way they've left to edit the longitude which was where the new local option is now and if you then save it, any new satellites default to 0.0E USALS ....again with no visible way of editing the longitude...

...you can add satellites and use diseqc 1.2 ... and a mix of USALS & Diseqc 1.2 ... I know some motors that won't like that either..

it quotes diseqc 1.3 .. don't remember that on other versions of those boxes.. perhaps it's their version of 1.3 that's faulty ..

You can't even dump a channel / satellite list into it either.. they made that incompatible ... and the satellite changing 'technique' is still there...

btw.. s/w version 35GBIE CMG 0.3.3.2

Noted for avoidance purposes.

No "You Want Toast?" Option, either. Disgraceful.

It seems they've taken a quirky but generally excellent cheapie Rx and rendered it largely pointless.

I don't suppose it has been patched in any way shame or form? I believe some variants can be, some can't - but that s/w version doesn't begin to resemble my 2006/07 factory version.
