Just wanted to get the thoughts of the members about the SlingBox. Its the unit that you attach to your reciever and can watch anywhere in the world. For Example, If you have Direct TV in the U.S, u attach the unit to it and can watch your channels in the U.K. Although the Slingbox must be connected to to ADSL. You can even change the channels while you are in the UK. The unit costs arount $250. Google it first Slingbox and lets discuss.

Humm...
The Washington Post has a good article / review about it:

Also check this article on CNET about it.

Sounds interesting...

sounds good, althought it sounds far from perfect, it might sort out those who can't get astra 2d so long as they have a good mate who's willing to leave their broadband connection on, have a dedicated receiver, and lnb output.... might be cheaper than 3M dish, but quality seems questionable.... it might be my answer to TP$ and all the other FTA stuff I enjoy here nromally in UK in australia. i was thinking you could probably program a dreambox to stream its video output across a TCP/IP link, adding some remote control features...

Have to say that on reading the first article on the unit, it really doesn't excite me at all, it is a video streaming interface and a pretty limited one at that. Even with 2 megabit connection, I only have 256K outward speed, so anything coming from me would be of low quality. It can also, according to the article, only send to one source at a time, so pretty limited capability.

Rolf, I was wondering if the streaming speed can be ironed out o both ends, can the quality increase. Obbviously there is no way to control those speeds, but if you can watch direct TV with the the quality of the digitalb picture that would not be so bad. That's and if of course. If you have your friend set up you own connection from wherever with a dedicated reciever, it will be much more convenient and efficient. Although Rolf, I do understand your doubts about the quality of the picture. We need to look into this more and find out.

no, not really, i guess several people could watch the same stream, but

1) they would all have to watch the same thing
2) in a C-S set up everyone has his/her own dish 'n receiver....
