Solus cards

Thanks to all for help. I ordered my new card online with no problem. I'm not too happy about my old card being instantly cut off though. My money's been taken and I can't watch 4 or 5. Is there anywhere to complain about this?

If you'd read the previous messages in this thread, you'd have seen that the instant cutoff was talked about. You best bet would have been to telephone 00 44 870 054 1800 and register as a new customer. Costs the same and you get to keep ITV, Ch4 and five till the big shut off. Same applies to anyone with a card of unknown origin. Bottom line, if you want to keep watching, don't give out your card number.

I'm surprised, that with the current trend in keeping call centre costs to a minimum, it wasn't someone in Bombay. :)
Maybe the Scottish guy is in Bombay. Nothing surprises me where Sky are involved.

Correct me if i am wrong......If you are an existing card holder your new card will auto authorise.....but if you are a "new" customer you will need to phone to authorise your card....of course pout cards worked because your old card was registered.......brian

The evidence is that all Series 2 cards are pre-activated for FTV channels. They aren't married to the box and do not need activation. Any card can be used in any box. Reports on other forums of cards obtained via this method, are that they work as soon as they are inserted. Unless someone knows different.....

They will send to a different address,ok,but if you do not know the original name and address the card was previously sent to,is it safe to give this card number,by replies already given it seems ok,but it was not completely clear that sams original card was of unknown origin.............brian

The card was originally registered in my name to my (previous) UK address when I was a Sky subscriber.

Hello Swedish Sam as you say you have 2D, I would be happy to know where in Sweden you are?

Hi Maxi 1,

I am near in a small place near Linkoping (Ostergotland). Realistically I need a 1.5m dish for uninterrupted reception of Astra 2D, but beggars can't be choosers....................

Would be interested to know your location!

I just phoned up 0870 054 1800 and told them I didn't have a card (I have an original light blue one). They took my order OK (I'm in the UK) but they told me I would have to call up to have the card activated after receipt and gave me a number 08700 500 744 to do this.

I phoned up yesterday to get a card for a second box, I didn't say I've taken the first box to France ( I registered the card to this box before taking it in July) and take the card back and forth. I was also told that I would need to get it activated when it arrives, (08700 500744) I dont know why they bother really as the cards will work in any box anyway, just telling you that it is the wrong card for the box which you know already!

On reflection I suppose it's so you get the correct programmes for your region by default.

I have one of the new Sky dark blue cards with the house on it. If I call the 08700541800 number from France will they bust me? Can I just quote my Sky subsciption details & get away with it?

If you have a new type card why would you want to phone...........................

Why don't you stick it in your box and see if it comes on.If not either call from a mobile phone or get someone from uk to call on your behalf.Let us know what happens.

Because I want a FTV card for a 2nd box. i.e. I don't want to pay for a 2nd Sky sub since most of the time its only our kids who watch the Sky channels

Ahh, sounds like you've confused matters by mentioning the other card, so you are saying that you have a subscription card at the moment, but would like a FTV card as well.

You may get away with calling the number from France (not advisable though), but you will require a UK address for the card to be sent to.

I personally know of 3 people who have called from France and two have received their cards already (to a Uk address).

If you are uncertain about ringing from outside the UK ( I was.......) then why don't you order the card online instead.

I used a UK address & a non UK Credit Card - no problem.

I think you'll find that he needs to enter details from a Series 1 card to use the online service. If he enters Series 2 serial number, he'll be told the card doesn't need updating. Just telephone, there isn't a problem. They just want your money....any money!

We are in France and today ITV didn't come up on the list of channels on sky. However, we keyed in 103 on the control and still got ITV. We just have to keep deleting the message that keeps coming up.

From what you say, you haven't upgraded your card yet. You should do so ASAP. Read the rest of this thread to see options available.

Your loss of ITV in the EPG is problem dealt with elsewhere in this forum. Maybe Rolfw could point you in the right direction.....?
