I have a pair of 'waterproof' outdoor timers to wire up on a job.

The customer already has the obligatory dual gang IP66 sockets fitted in the garden ( BG IP66 13A Switched Socket 2 Gang | Toolstation )

The issue is the timers have the plug end at the bottom and timer at the top, meaning they foul the cover of the socket. Currently I'm stumped on how to put them inline (extension socket, short plug to socket lead, etc. ) without allowing water to ingress somewhere. I had thought of putting them indoors near the consumer unit on their own spurred socket but the powered items in the garden require different times to function correctly (pond fountain and lighting)


Any suggestions ?

Plastic storage box hinged over the whole lot.

i.e. much smaller with 13A skt on the same axis as that of the pins that plug into the wall socket, instead of above/below the latter.

Skip the plugs and sockets, and use one of these hummers.(less to get wet)

That particular one is essentially certified for the US market and thus probably (in fact, almost certainly not) not certifiable in the UK & EU (given the differences in the safety standards requirements in the two markets).

However, as @Terryl said, there might be a suitable equivalent over here (not that I have come across one).

OTOH, should one fail, then replacement will be more difficult and expensive than a plug-in unit.

Howabout one of these GREEN "Dri-boxes"? Could that be unobtrusive enough?

FWIW: I bought one a few years ago but never used it simply because I found another solution to my problem

Thanks, but no. The sockets already installed have been mounted on a wall that has some preservation order on them, so the boltholes and I resume screws require approval before touching.

Im seriously thinking of inverting the pointy end of the current socket since it looks to be held by the usual two screws on each side , what harm could it do ?

 
@CH: if you use one of those Dri-boxes then you could use the original bolt holes in the wall with bolts through the box case to hold that to the wall, and then fit whatever you want inside it. "Simples" (at least in theory!) :)
 
A dribox requires one more cable to run to it.

(And those boxes are quite unsightly)
