Space freighter launch failure

NHK have just shown some dramatic footage of the launch of tonights space freighter which was going to the ISS going horribly wrong a few seconds after liftoff.

Basically the rocket blew up about 100 feet off the ground.

Boom! This fireworks rivals even some of Russian efforts! And it's not even 5th Nov....
 
On the replays you can clearly see the blast shockwave racing away from the explosion
 
Bring the shuttle out of mothballs ..
This is nasty and makes the recent Beikenur failure look tame..

I do hope they are no causalities on the ground and supplies get to the space station quickly, they must be a back up plan ?
 
No casualties being reported so far - fortunately when the motors quit it just went straight back down, and theres no-one anywhere close by.

Plenty of scorched paint round the launch pad tho!

The engines are supposedly 40 year old N1 units. The N1s had a terrible launch record......

Makes you wonder why they bother trying to use russian rockets at all, they are always blowing up... :rolleyes:

Heck, Dick Strawbridge could build rockets out of scrap better than they could....:-rofl2
 
I am guessing the reason is cost... This N1 rocket was allegedly modified to bring it in line with "modern standards".

Hilarious!

That Tent must be made of Kevlar if they thought it would be a safe haven.

Either that, or they were rushing to grab some more free booze.
