I know we've had Threads on this Topic before, but this recent BBC Article brings it back to the forefront

A challenge indeed - Nuclear Power Stations were/are all well and good until Decommissioning time and now we have to deal with the unforseen (maybe) consequences of another major area of technological "advance".

I've often thought that, just doesn't add up. ;)
 
It's an interesting article and makes me wonder what percentage of the debris is commercial and what military. Why push it further out into space though? Surely if it's small enough it's better to make it burn up on re rentry. I like the idea of a 'space umbrella', though I have a feeling Mary Poppins might be otherwise engaged.
 
They just need the space equivalent of scrap thieves, a rather dirty and knackered old shuttle slowly rattling about looking for things, and then having stuff thrown into the back of it and speeding off... :-rofl2
