hi,
i have read loads of threads on splitter and multiswitches and quad or double lnbs.

I have a sky minidish on my house and i get a good picture, but now i have a satelllite pci card in my pc and want to have the signal from my dish going there aswell as to my digibox.

I DONT want a new lnb (quad or double) or a multiswitch

i would like to buy this splitter below could someone tell me if it would let me watch 2 different channels at the same time please:

You may not want to, but if you want it to work, you will have to.

You cannot guarantee watching a different channel, it will work occasionally, but three out of four time you will get a conflict of either polarity or band and it will not work. That is why people have quad LNBs, you can buy one on ebay for very little.

Unfortunately, it's not generally possible for 2 (or more) sat receivers to "share" a single lnb output, for the reasons explained in my mutiswitch guide:

www.satellites.co.uk/php-bin/forum/showthread.php?t=41947 .

Given that, then yes, you could use a sat frequency splitter - one of those "metal block" things! - to feed 2 (or more) receivers.

Note that - for a 2 way split - the signal loss will be around 4dB on each output, so you need a good signal to start with.

Note that, as Rolf says, one receiver will "take control", and restrict the (same) channels you can watch on both! Exactly what happens depends on which receiver "asserts" either 22 Khz or 18v, and whether you use a splitter with 1 outlet dc blocked, so it's a bit random!

(added) it's just theoretically possible that feeding 18v out of one sat receiver back into another might cause damage, although I wouldn't have thought so, I'd happily do it!

so i cant use a splitter then, even if it has a dc pass on all 4 sides.

i dont want to drill more wholes for the wire from the quad lnb thats why i wanted a splitter, cause i have 1 whole drilled thats from the single lnb.

thanks

you can "use" a splitter, but not to watch any channel on either receiver!

However, there's still a possible solution on one cable, see:

www.satelliteonline.co.uk/stacker_destacker_unit.htm

(That's a particular website, look around for the best price).

Note that it's not always guaranteed to work, as you're frequency division muxing 2Ghz down a coax, so your existing single sat cable must be a good type in good condition.

And it's expensive!

Don't know if you really mean "in" the house, but if you are putting it inside, it must be looking out of a South, preferably SSE facing window with an unobstructed line of sight to the satellite.
