My Satellite Setup
small dish stab motor universal lnb

i bought a stab hh120 motor around 2001. i used it for about 5 years. i moved house and have not used it for 15 years. i just bought fortec star passion+ receiver. i can get three satellites that are close together. i cant get the stab motor to move. does 20 year old stab motors use USALS.
 
Have you setup the receiver to use a motor??? Look at page 23 of your manual, and follow the instructions, you have to set your longitude and latitude first to use USALS correctly.
 
i dont know if USALS will work with my 20 year old stab hh120 motor. i did try it. i put the longitude and latitude.

The Stab HH 120 will work with USALS or Diseqc 1.2, how do you have the motor connected to the receiver??

And did you follow the instructions on page 23 of your manual?
 
i have the cable from the motor REC going to the INPUT on the receiver. i didnt get a manual with the receiver.

And the motor needs to be proppelry aligned to due South.
 
Change the motor setting to DiSEqC 1.2 and see if it will move. There may also be buttons on the motor casing to manually move it east or west.

Yes that will work, that way you can see if the motor is getting DC power, there are two buttons on the bottom of the motor these will move it left or right, be sure to set it back to zero before mounting it back on the mast.

And try the Diseqc 1.2 settings as Ozumo mentioned.
 
No, stab motors indeed don't have buttons.

Which three satellites? And between those three sats, the motor does not move?

Or even better, if the software allows it, try buttons for manual dish movement and check that the dish actually moves.

You can also try a reset. From the manual: "In the receivers' menu this function could be named as: RE-ALIGN - RESET - GO TO POS 00 - REFERENCE. In some receivers this operation is automatic."

Perhaps the power does not reach the motor (cable problem) or the motor is stuck after a long period of not using it.
"oxidised connectors" is one of the possible causes mentioned in the manual

These motors also have software limits. If you try to move the dish beyond those limits, it may appear to not work, but then
it is just a matter of disabling the limits (and then if needed setting them to more appropriate values)

The motors DO support usals, so use that (much easier than diseqc1.2 and less work)

Model/serial number or good pictures of the motor you have installed may be useful to check compatibility
 
terryl i have looked at page 23 and done what it says. i tried it with Diseqc 1.2 as well as USALS and it still does not move. A the satellites were ASTRA A/B ASTRA 1F and i think BADR C channel hopper the motor is a stab hh120 serial number is 108 12002. i tried the motor indoors by its self and it still did not move. i opened it up and did not see anything burnt out or damaged tracks. on one corner of the circuit board there was a lump of grease on top of one of the resistors. i have tried it on 2 receivers. fortec star passion+ and a echostar dsb 880 2ci and it does not move on any of them.

Well if you have tried several receivers, and have set the Diseqc 1.2 to the correct settings for the motor and still cant get it to move then something may be bound up inside the motor, it's possible that after a long period of idle use the grease in the gears may have hardened up, this would/could cause it to bind up.
 
some time ago when I was giving a hand to my friend, supplier and importer of diseqc motors, it happened that some motors or rather electronic boards broke down because the grease that dripped onto the board short-circuited some components
so that could also be the problem, and if so you have to change the board or the faulty component but it is not easy to find it

@Channel Hopper has some experience with both working & faulty Stab motors (including one I gave him!) - he can probably give a good opinion/idea as to whether that motor has failed or not, and many people have reported that their Stabs have failed, so it's a likely outcome!
 
Still awaiting pictures of the outdoor parts.
