Hi
First you will have to forgive me as I am a bit of a techno noob when it comes to sat systems so will try to explain as best I can.

I have a 1.8m dish (am in Spain so need a fair size one) and a Satellite Receiver by Galaxy Innovations, the following model to be exact:

[warning]Live links are not allowed: I have disabled it[/warning]

When the system was setup everything was working fine, we got all Sky channels and quality was fine but then one day for no reason most of the channels had no signal so I cleared the channel list and did the search again. After searching we had only a fraction of the channels and was missing channels like MTV, Sky News, Sky 1, Boomerang and many others including most of the HD ones. Now it picked up quite a few Sky Sports channels but even though the box says I am on Sky Sports 3 the picture is actually Sky Sports 1. I was advised to do a blind scan which I did and now I have many duplicates of the same channel, for Sky Sports we have 18 channels all showing SP1 or SP2.
In another room we have an old Sky Receiver which works fine so I tried the Galaxy box in that room and the same thing happened so can rule out any cable problems.
I then decided to play around with the settings and I turned off LNB power (it was 13/18) and scanned again and this time it picked up the MTV channels, Boomerang, Sky 1 (Still many HD channels missing) but with the power off the ones that were working with LNB power on stopped working. The Sky Sports channels were still messed up and after a scan we had 25 SP1 and SP2 channels.

So at the moment we are having to turn LNB power on or off when we want to watch certain channels. I have been told that some LNB´s can send through too much power to some boxes which could be causing the problem - is this possible? I have tried scanning various satellites which similar results.

I have tried setting the receiver back to factory settings via the settings menu but even though it removes the favourites and channel list not all settings are reset, there doesnt seem to be a hard reset switch or anything that I can find.

Anyone experienced anything similar?

Appreciate any advice, many thanks, Dave

Did you lose the channels after a storm? If so the dish may have moved a little.

There are 5 co located satellites using anything up to almost a dozen different transmission footprints, some will be stronger than others in your location. If the dish has moved marginally then its quite possible that the weaker beams will have vanished.

Or the lnb may be failing, if so you may have lost one or more of the hi/lo V/H switching.

Hi Analoguesat
Thanks for replying, no we didnt have a storm or anything. On our other receiver, the old Sky one, all channels are fine and the strength of the signals is very good. I have tried the old receiver on the cable the Gi box connects to and still no problem with signal quality or any channel problems.
I did try emailing the people that supply these GI boxes but they have not replied once and a call to them ended with them switching into Russian from Spanish when explaining a problem

Ah useful additional info.

If the same cable is good on another receiver then it has to be a receiver issue / fault.

If yopur supplier isnt interested in helping you then the best you can do is bin it and find a better supplier.

PS sorry about the live link, here is a pic of the box in case anyone may recognise them and description of the receiver, dont know if this helps in anyway. only had this about 4 months and except for the first couple of weeks am not too impressed.

What messages are you getting with the "missing channels"? Is it "bad or scrambled channel"?

Are you using a genuine Sky subscription card or are you paying someone for a card-sharing service as that is the usual use for that receiver?

No not getting anything like scrambled or bad channel. The receiver is just not picking the channels up at all in the search. I am using something other than an original sky card which is working fine on the subscription channels that we are able to pick up. If I have the LNB power set at 13/18 or 13.5/18.5 and try to view one of the MTV channels the signal is about 5% yet on something like Tiny Pop the signal is 85% but if I turn off the LNB power the MTV channel signal is about 78% and will work fine but the Tiny Pop goes down to 5% and stops working.

Are you plugging that receiver into the broadband and getting your pay tv that way?

Not sure whether allowed to confirm or deny that as initially when we had this installed we didnt realise that it was a grey area shall we say. I wouldnt have thought though that it would be causing the problem as we are unable to find free channels in a search like Sky News.

Hobson's choice, really: Confirm it and we must close the discussion, deny it and we won't be able to help (Other than refer you to your "provider"!

Sorry bud, under forum rules we cannot give you any more help with this receiver.

Discussion of any problems whatsoever of paid for card sharing problems is explicitly forbidden.

Contact your provider & get them to sort you out.

Topic closed, please dont ask again about this particular problem.
