Swedish/European satellite

Hi there everyone.
I have a few questions for you.
I am a super-novice (ie I know NOTHING) about satellites and how to work them, but I want to set up a system at home that can recieve swedish/european channels.
As I understand, you need quite a large dish, especially since I live in Manchester.
I need help with everything from size/type of dish I need, type of LNB and which decoder is the best, and also how to get hold of the cards.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Welcome Joko, a 1.2 metre dish should enable you to receive all of the Sacandinavian broadcasts that are transmitted free to air. If you buy a receiver with an embedded Conax CAM, then if you have contacts in Sweden, you should be able to buy a subscription card.

Thanks for your reply. I have read in other places in this forum that you need a planning permission to set up a dish of that size, is this true?
Also, would I need twin LNBs or are most channels over there transmitting from the same sat?

Could you recommend a good, priceworthy, dish and reciever perhaps?

Planning permission may not be granted even though you apply for it

Are you a homeowner or rented / council

Its best to check you have a clear line of sight to true south before looking at the regulations and material parts

Next have a word with the neighbours and see if they might object, having them on your side before anything goes up is a priority

Thanks for your advice.
Im a homeowner, and if I install a dish, I will do it on the roof, so it should not be in anyones way, but of course I will check with the neighbours.
Can my neighbours take part of the signal coming from the dish? I.e is it possible to split the signal if they would have their own reciever, or is it necessary to have two lnb's then?

Best to keep a moving system all for yourself.. It is possible to fit a twin LNB, but if you move the dish during a programme when the neighbours watching, you may fall out
 
I recommend the following:

Samsung DSR 9500 AY.
disqec 1.2 motor H-H 100 up to 1M dish.or H-H 100 up to 1.2 M dish.
MTI blue line LNB 0.6 dB or sharp LNB 0.6 dB.
