Türksat-5a and new ku band??

I'm ready to strap on the cheap Chinese junkster with the WR75 flange.
Just waiting for some definite confirmation of pictures and I will be strapping up.

The bolt holes were out of alignment on the junkster LNB to match up to a Precision WR75 waveguide so I drilled out a C120 to WR75 adapter and placed it in line.

Something strange is being done to the beacon. It was down to <15dB in 10Hz and the polarisation has been changing. For a while I couldn't get a null at all, suggesting circular. Now the level's up and it has a 15dB null but seems to be slightly off vertical. I'd expect at least 25-30dB nulls on this set-up.

In the time it took to write the above it's returned to 35dB in 10Hz and the full null is back. The skew seems to be all over the place.

edit: few mins later back to poor null and lower level

Edit 2: I see the wide band noise as in @John plot 13.56-13.64V

A bit round at the edges and it's up about 5dB on this plot now. There's no structure in the signal, I'm almost certain it's noise.

I was also just able to make out a very wide transponder on the vertical plane. But he was only seen briefly.

Interesting, those are unusual parameters. If it's like LBC appeared to be, the only thing I can see on Arabsat is Sunna TV HD Saudi Arabia on 12693H. That frequency doesn't match in the same way LBC did.

The beacon is different now, it seems stable at a low level (~25dB below it's original power) and slant polarised but with a very poor null (~7dB ). Maybe it's uplinked to both V & H creating something elliptical? I had to drop the bandwidth a long way to see it. (LNB not GPSDO locked)

Hor & Ver test sigs today after over a week of no activity.
There are two vertical signals shown on the spec and one horizontal one. The lnb is a low spec unit and might be a little bit off skew causing some cross pol. The indicated Hor signal is nearly off the scale on the spec analyser when switched to Hor mode on spec analyser.

Good catch, 1dB lower here but my LNB has ~2.5dB NF and there's heavy rain. <edit> up to 12.4dB SNR now 5 mins after screenshot.

It looks like the TX is a bit sick as I see the same tilt on the signal as you @John

<edit 2> There are carriers on 13645V & 13640H

Must have been a thick cloud, it's now up to 13.5dB SNR

The new upper extended Ku frequencies that this thread deals with are in the 13.400 to 13650 GHz range, the picture shows some cheap Chinese lnb's that a few of us are using. Note the LO setting and the frequency range covered on the labels. The lnbf shown in your picture might stretch down to the desired freq range when using Crazyscan or EBSPro etc ?. ** Picture courtesy of forum member Moonbase .
