TBS Card 6983

6983 not have compatibility issues like another saa7160-based TBS PCI-E cards, because used Pericom PCI-E 1.x/2.0 compatible switch before SAA7160.
But anyway 6983 replaced with 6903 because SAA7160 not available now. All PCI-E TBs products now with FPGA-based PCI-E bridge (like Digital devices cards last 5-6 years)

Thanks for the clarification :)

Have just acquired a TBS-6983. I realise the 6903 has replaced this but seems too good not to use....It's all boxed up ready to use. Anyone available to give me a simple version of how to install / what's needed to use this in a PC ?
Was really hoping to watch the channels on 5West.
Thank you in advance

Plug the power cable in, inside the case, then Get the driver form the tbs site, install that,

Reboot,

Then you have quite a few option on how you want to watch.

Eg crazyscan and vlc, easy blind scan and vlc, dvb dream or your fave dvb prog.

Thank you Chris. The download has been archived as it's been replaced. But found it OK. The board does it just plug in? There is a remote control in the box too?
Do you have a link to crazyscan and vlc? is that best for 5 west?
Still not sure about this remote control. where do you use that?

Give me about an hour and I can help you with some of the progs and files :)

Plug the card in to the pcie socket, then plugin the power cable from you PC power supply.
Yes there is a remote in the box, but I have never used that. The mouse worked just fine.

Hi,

Can anyone please advise me what the difference is between a TBS 6983 and a TBS 6903 apart from the model number? The TBS 6903 is listed as the latest twin tuner "Pro" card from TBS but the TBS 6983 was also a twin tuner "Pro" card.

Thx

See Crazycat's answer in post #241.

Llew, Chris,

Thx for your replies.

If I understand correctly, there is no difference in practical operational functionality, its just that the TBS 6903 uses a different chip because the old chip is no longer available?
At the moment, there would seem to be no reason to upgrade my TBS 6983 to a TBS 6903 unless the new chip they are using offers some functionality previously unavailable with the old SAA7160 chip.

Rgds

Thinking of buying the tbs 6903, few questions. will the card support DVB-S2X in the future/now ?. any new cards in the pipeline ?.

From me!!
