Technical help needed please

I have 2 inputs on the back of my sky+ HD box (probably standard) with a cable going from the dish into each input socket. I wanted to disconnect input 2 and re route the cable to a spare box in my sons room so he has the free channels. However, i notice that when i disconnect input 2 i lose channel 108 only - Sky Atlantic HD. Would i be able to use a splitter on the input 1 cable to feed both inputs and most importantly, will it restore CH 108?

You cant use passive splitters of any kind - the lnb on the dish is an active device switched by means of tones and voltages. If you want another receiver run another cable from the dish to the new location
 
You can't split Satellite feeds as they are two-way: Not only does the signal come from the /LNB, but each separate Tuner (whether one of two in a` "+" box or from a separate box) sends band and polarity switching signals back to the LNB.

The proper way to do what you want without causing conflicts and confusing issues is to upgrade to a a` quad lnb and provide each tuner with a separate, dedicated feed.
 
Thanks guys, i thought that's what i may have to do. I believe there maybe a 4th output not being used on my LNB.

Any idea why input 2 (which i disconnected at my sky box) only provides Sky Atlantic HD ie, that's the only channel I have lost (vital for Boardwalk Empire) ;-)
 
Your receiver may have a faulty tuner, not failed completely but on its way out

You could try your other receiver (If a Freesat HD one) on a single feed and tune in the frequency. If it locks then you know it has to be the S ky HD box up the spout.

No. Pretty certain the box is fine. Ever since i disconnected source input 2, i have to change the cable from input 1 to input 2 around 10pm bizarre. I'll run another cable from my dish and that should sort things out. Any explanation on the above phenomenom will be appreciated lol
