Technical receiver information re Freesat.

Hi There,
Being a new poster to this forum may I say hallo to all of you out there.
I am hoping that someone with techical knowledge will read this and offer me their assistance.
On 10th October, 2008, due to me cancelling my Sky+subscription, which has went up £15 in four year, and you have to pay extra for certain sports functions, I now only receive Freesat from Sky. Obviously my recording ability is also stopped, but I do get every Sky+ programme advertised on my television when I apply the menu button.
This annoys me, as I would only like to actually see the programmes which I can actually receive. I cannot install a Freesat box, as this stops me receiving Setanta Sports. If I go to freeview through an aerial, I do not get as many channels, and I also lose Setanta 2, 3, and racing uk.
Can anyone with the necessary technical knowledge advise me if it is possible to connect my Sky+ box, Freesat box, and a digital recorder, together, without causing damage to any of the components or boxes.
This way I could watch or record through the Freesat Box, most of the time, and when I wanted to see Setanta Sports (Full), I could insert my card into my Sky+ box and watch Setanta Sports.
I would very much appreciate advice on this matter.

Not sure what you mean by connecting them together?


You can run a Freesat box and a Sky box from one dish. I assume that you have a quad LNB, in which case you ned to run an extra cable to the Freesat box. Alternatively, take the coax out of the Sky+ 2nd tuner and feed that to your Freesat box.

As for recording, you could if you have enough connections, feed a video output from each sat box to your recorder.

By the way Freesat are supposed to be releasing Freesat PVRs by the end of the year, also I'm sure I read a rumour somewhere on here that the charge for using Sky+ for non-subscribers was going to be dropped.
 
Many thanks for trying to help me Robbo71. My dish, supplied by Sky, when I first took out my subscription to Sky+, is just a normal Sky+ dish, so I do not know what components it will have. As I Do Not want the complete Sky+ menu to display all Sky+ programmes, which, at my age, I find confusing, I want to install a Freesat Box to my TV, to avoid getting all this unnecessary information, but if I do I will lose my full Setanta Sports channels, which I like. (Racing UK etc). If I could install a Freesat Box, and Connect it to my redundant Sky+ box, without damaging either one, I could then use the Freesat box for normal viewing, but revert back to my Sky+ box whenever I wanted to watch Setanta Sports. I would of course also like to connect a hard drive recorder to the set up. The thing I am worried about, is that if I connect the two the wrong way, I will damage something, also knowing which way would make them work efficiently. Having done a vast amount of DIY in my 3 score years and 10, I am not experienced enough to know what to do in this situation.

What furher help do you need?

It should just be a simple matter of turning both receivers OFF. Unscrewing the F-connecor that goes into the LNB2 input on the Sky+ box and sticking it into the Freesat box.

If you have enough scarts on your TV, then connect both boxes to it, similarly with the HDD recorder. Each sat box should have 2 scarts, one for a recorder and another for a TV.
