Technomate 1500 - IR receiver failure/replacement

Hmm, so my trusty TM 1500CI+ remote has stopped working. Thought it might be the remote but testing the remote its still sending valid codes it seems but the receiver is not receiving them.

Some googling revealed people having issues sometimes with remotes packing up and firmware. Not touched firmware for a while, but downloaded latest official from technomate and loaded it anyway. Still not remote. Found some comments that these receivers can have the IR diode fail (never had this on any other consumer electronics ever), has anyone else had this issue? Anyone replaced it themselves and is it a standard part?

Yes its a sign I should buy that VU+ Duo, but it would be handy to have the trusty old technomate working in the short term or as a test box even when its replaced. Any ideas?
 
Since Technomate has more models than most in their lineup, the receiving diode should be readily available, really from any spares outlet.

I would hazard a guess you could pull one out of a faulty receiver from another make completely, anything under ten years old
 
Yeah I need to crack it open, I am sure I can get something for a few pence from one the component suppliers, just wondered if anyone else had this issue as I saw references elsewhere on internet. Box works fine, its just with 3 buttons for up/down/power on the front its features are limited in its current state!
 
I would go ask your local Sk y installer for one of the boxes taken out during an upgrade to twin tuner, they are unlikely to want much more than a beer for it.
