I have resurrected my enthusiasm by buying a motor (and
cancelling Sky Sports too!). So far am very satisfied. However:

I have switched the 5500 from a RF link to the TV to
a SCART connection (tried three leads known to work and so
does a DVD player !) but cannot get any sound. Any suggestions
as to what might be set incorrectly.

I can now access many more satellite and search for programs.
The new ones however do not appear in the channel lists after
a search so I assume the receiver is full of junk channels from
Astra and Hotbird. I suppose the obvious answer is to find out
what is useful and tranfer to Favorites, the rest being deleted.

If only there were comprehensive instructions!

Any info received with thanks.

Hi,
One thing regarding the audio that may be worth checking is that the digital audio output is turned off,if it has it. SPDIF I think its called.

Regarding the channels etc, Its a good idea to keep the transponder list up to date, that way when you do a scan, it will find any missing channels.

I am finding organising everything a bit of a nightmare too at the moment, as I have done too many blind scans recently and filled the receiver with a lot of rubbish.

I tend to have only one satellite in my channel list at a time, so I intend to go through each satellite one by one and get rid of any cr@p.

Thanks for above suggestions. I think the sound problem is a dodgy
double scart socket so will investigate further. I also deleted the
astra and hotbird channels (there is just SO much rubbish) and
am currently investigating Hispasat. Hopefully I might find
someting Spanish!!

You shouldn't have a problem finding something Spanish on Hispasat(30W), there are a number of Free to air Spanish channels on there, (there are some on Astra1 (19E) too)

Here is a list of most of them

_http://www.flysat.com/tv-sp.php

There may be some missing from the list, You can get Discovery Spain on Sirius (4.8E) also. ( There might be others)

Discovery Channel Spain
Sirius 2 (4.8E)
12226H
25540 7/8
Options of English or dubbed Spanish sound.
