I have had a couple of Technomate receivers (TM-1000 CI and TM4100D) for several years.
Neither seem to be able to pick up a couple of Russian FTA channels (Channel One Russia and RBK) despite making sure that the correct transponder details are saved, and numerous adjustments to the dish. I don't have this problem with other Russian channels on Hotbird. However, having had access to a relatively cheap Comag SL35 I managed to pick up these channels easily (and continuously) from the same LNB used by the other boxes.
Should I assume that the Technomates are just not as sensitive (the technical details appear to be the same) or is there still something I can do to overcome this problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well yes you could be correct in your assumption about the tuner however, there is another possiblity but only a possibility..

stb design may be the answer especially if you have a DECT phone in the property as the channel RBK is only 20MHz away from the problem frequency for effects caused by DECT equipment

DECT Frequencies are 1880 to 1900 MHz


Hi band problems:-

12480 to 12500 MHz (10600 MHz LO) IF is 1880 to 1900 MHz

Lo band problems:-

11630 to 11650 MHz (9750 MHz LO) IF is 1880 to 1900 MHz

Unfortunately I am not able to confirm this as the other channel you mention channel one appears to be Sri Lankan not Russian
 
Interference is certainly worth considering.

It exploits weaknesses in the cabling from LNB to Receiver, primarily, so joints/wall faceplates should be fully screened throughout (preferably avoided altogether), high quality cable used, and damage (especially kinks) avoided.

The Boxes themselves are, effectively, Faraday Cages thus relatively immune (but not necessarily totally so).

Thanks for your reply.
Your suggestion about interference from DECT equipment sounds like a possibility, not one that I had considered before. I am not aware of such equipment being in the neighbourhood, but would it not affect the Comag receiver in the same way? Also I have had the same problem on campsites, away from home.
Sorry about Channel One Russia, it comes under different names,depending on which language you are using. In Russian, it is known as Perviy Kanal Europa.The link to Lyngsat gives the details:

RBK on 12520H, is coming up as RBC-TV on my TM5200, working fine though.

What freq is the other channel on? as I get no channels coming up named "channel one Russia" on a kingofsat search.


Edit, got it now, on 12597H, Lyngsat calls it Perviy kanal Europa, scans in on TM as "1TVRUS Europe"

so, no problems with the transmissions on those two channels. Massive signal on my TM.

Not necessarily, the designs are different and the way band pass filtering is undertaken may differ and produce unusual results like this

It could just be a characteristic of the lnb/stb combination that prevents reception of those channels I would personally for the small cost involved replace the lnb and try the TM's again. I once had a dodgy lnb which did all sorts of peculiar things
