My Satellite Setup
1980s 1.5m offset dish, single output black ultra on a homemade sturdy mount, getting all channels 24/7 from sky with a pace digibox but no subscription so only bbc1,2 itv etc.
My Location
Sante Eulalia, Ibiza,Spain
Hi, I am trying to tune my skydigibox (pace ds430n, ftv card) into the south beam, I also have a technomate (tm5200d). When I connect the technomate box I can easily recieve many channels. eg bloomberg 11597v, cnbc 11597v, cnn int 11778v, sky news int 12604h, sky select 12032h to name but a few.
When I disconnect the technomate box and connect my skydigibox I get nothing. I have tried saving all these frequencies as default but still don't get a signal. I have also tried some other frequencies as suggested elsewhere in this forum but no joy.
I know the dish is receiving the signal as my technomate box is working, any idea what I could do to get my sky box to work? All help much apreciated.

Your frequency setup on the TM is wrong. The channel you list do not broadcast on those frequencies!

bloomberg 11597v, 11426V
cnbc 11597v, 11261H
cnn int 11778v, 12051V
Sky news int 12604h, 12207V

I would have thought that if you are getting Sky News INTERNATONAL on 12604h then your dish is on Astra 1 at 19 east
UK TV and UK Sky boxes like Astra 2 at 28.2-28.5 east - where sky news in on 12207.
So you will need to realign your dish to the correct satellites to get your Slybox to work

Hence AS's post about the frequencies being different.

Ah yes - I think woborny is correct - your dish is aligned to 19E not 28E :D

Another vote for the wrong Astra.

Tweaky, tweaky!

Thanks to all, and correct, it was pointing at 19E. I have now tuned to 28E and my technomate reports a level of 94% and a quality of 95%. However, after a rescan, the only channels from the 1100 or so that came up that I can watch are-

BBC Persian 10.714H
Farsi 1 10.714H
TRT Arapca 11.546H
TRT Turizm Ve Belge 11.546H

As you can imagine, I feel like setting fire to my equipment! Please help!

Has anyone any suggestions.

Well that certainly isn't 28E either!!

Just checking which Satellite you've found, but BBC Persian is only on Hotbird, W3 and Telstar.

I'll get back to you - but what is certain is that you've moved the dish in the wrong direction!

You have gone the wrong way - thats Eutelsat W3A at 7E :D

BTW dont lose heart - you have done the difficult bit - finding ANYTHING! Now its just a case of getting the dish aligned onto the right sat. And dont be embarrassed at having found the wrong satellite - we have all aligned a dish up on the wrong bird at one time or another :)

Ok.

You are on Euteslat W3A at 7E.

So from 19.2E you've gone 12 degrees the wrong way.

Move it back via 19.2E and then a few degrees towards the East, not towards the West.

Tweaky, tweaky.

I got fed up going on the roof with an extension lead, tv and box to tune the dish so I have bought it down to ground level. My technomate box still thinks I am tuned to 28E for some reason and won't pick up 19E now!! This may go on till morning so please bear with me! Still got BBC persian from 28E. I factory reset the box but still the same info, I am pointing at 28E but can't be. Please keep an eye out for more posts and thanks for all the encouragement.

BBC Persian is on 7W, NOT 28E.

Technomate has no idea where your dish is pointing - all "28E" is is a data table that you can manually edit. If it helps, change the Name "28E" to "No idea .. yet" and you'll be better off!

Just keep budging the dish further east (and depress the elevation a tiny bit) and re-scan each found Satellite as you go. You'll know when you really have hit 28E 'cos you'll get largely UK channels, NOT BBC Persian!!

Ignore what the box is saying about which satellite you are receiving and concentrate on the actual channels you are picking up.

The satellite list is just an internal database containing the frequencies each satellite is known to use. Now the SAME freqs are reused over and over again right around the satellite orbital arc.

therefore if you use the 28E entry in the receiver database but your dish is actually pointing at say 13E it will scan through the frequencies and display channels wherever the frequencies coincide on the two satellites.

The best way to understand this is to look at some frequency lists:

13E - -http://www.flysat.com/hotbird.php

7E - -http://www.flysat.com/eutelsatw3a.php

28E - -http://www.flysat.com/28east.php

Once you get your head around this concept everything will fall into place. It seems complicated, but it isnt - honest :)

BTW when folk are having problems like this we always recommend you mark up the dish mounts before you move a dish so if you get horribly lost you can quickly reset and start again.

Ahem.

Your Service. New Balls, please.

thanks again everyone, its getting dark here so I am going to try again in the morning with a clear if slightly hung over head. I don't deserve a beer but i am going to have one anyway...
Cheers!

quick tip - at this time of year astra 2 at 28 east is pretty much in the same direction as where the sun is at about 1030-1130ish...it should not be that much different to where I am - as on a clear day I can see your islands! it is a nice little reference to use - as is dishpointer.com.....

A 1.2m dish won't be too useful in Ibiza if you are pointing to 28 degrees

Ok, I give up, I cannot get a signal from 28E, I can get loads of channels from19E but not even a signal from 28E, anyone any ideas. There are no trees in the way and this dish used to pick up all the channels before they swapped to 2D. Been tryin all morning, used the sun and dishpointer but no joy..i may have to put up with cnn!

well.. whilst I was typing my last post I was running a scan on a 1.5m dish that I have but has never worked. It has a c120 mount and by balancing my normal lnb on top of the outer ring of the mount I was getting a very weak signal on my signal meter. Anyway, decided to scan for channels whilst typing and lo and behold I have 120 english channels. I am unsure how I will fix the lnb but at least its progress!
