Terrestrial modulator

Do you mean the unit sold by SSS? If so, I ask you to explain better.
I don't need HDMI loopthrough, but what happens in case of a 4K input signal? Is it downscaled by the modulator itself? Good news if it works with SKYq.
Also, is there a good choice in parameters settings? Thanks.

If you read the auction link it describes the options of product for 4K modulation, including downscaling.

Yes but it refers to Technomate, not to Triax.

It will be almost identical, with an optional splitter (at higher cost) for 4k signal distribution.
Why not ask SS if you have doubts, as a VIP customer they will bend over backwards to assist you, even on a bank holiday.

Haha!! No need to call SSS in a bank holiday.... can wait until next week.
I did not know that Technomate and Triax are almost the same. If so, no need to search TM if I can get such similar product.

With the Triax you'll need a 4K-to-HD downscaler, it looks as though SSS will supply one, total cost is similar to the all-in-one Technomate 4K modulator. SSS calls it the Triax 4K splitter. I would ask them to guarantee it will work with with HDCP 2.2 and Sky Q before buying.

So.... it is not almost the same! Totally different!
TM downscales 4K signal, HDCP 2.2 is supported and HDMI loopthrough is present.
If Triax needs external downscaler is more complex. I'm looking for such all-in-one modulator, su Technomate seems really the best option.

Whist the wording and product is different, the options for 1080 and 2160 resolution from Technomate are roughly the same specification and cost.

I don't use that source, I use wholesalers, but it probably is the same model. Here's the PDF for it.

Interesting that according to the specs the Triax video output encoding is limited to 12Mbps, the HD Technomate manual states up to 30Mbps. Couldn't find the spec for the 4K model.

Found the Technomate, just ordered.

personally I have two EDISION HDMI modulator and I don't know if they are HDCP 2.2 compatible, I don't have a 2.2 device to test for you.
But it seems to me that HDCP 2.2 compatible switches are able to convert the stream to HDCP 1.4
About the EDISION modulator, I find the video and sound quality very good.
It is not very expensive and easy to configure.
I hope that that will be able to help you. :)

Yes I know Edision devices, I had one modulator some years ago, they are very good.
Not sure about a possible HDCP conversion from 2.2 to 1.4.
Now I just ordered the Technomate, waiting for delivery during this week maybe. I let you know. Thanks.

Delivered today. Very good modulator you know.
It has a solid metal case and good and solid keyboard.
On the back, RF and HDMI can be looped, and USB port can be used not only for firmware update, but also to download/upload settings.
User guide is clear and complete with many suggestions.
All parameters are defaulted for UK users but it is very easy to adjust all setup for your country and your needs.
Video can be streamed with a super 30mb bitrate! From 1.000 to 30.000, always H264.
Audio birate can reach 320kb, always MPEG.
HDCP is definitely recognized, not tested 4K yet.
I did not tested remote control option, I do not need it.
Video and audio are really crisp. Very happy after this choice, thank you to everyone for very useful advices.

Just a question for users of this modulator.
What about RF output level? In Advanced menu this value can be set between -10 DBm and +20 DBm, default is 0 DBm.
Turning on for the first time I noted that 0 DBm was too low in my setup, so I raised up until +10 DBm.
Do you know the corresponding values with DBu levels normally read with a meter?
I have no meter yet so I can not read the output signal. but I would like to know the level now set in my device. Thanks.

I would have thought most meters out there are calibrated in microVolts, many switchable to dBm.

I trust your electronic equipment, (cable/connectors and final AV device) is terminated correctly and of the same impedance otherwise the measurement values will be meaningless.

Try this site....Use 75 for the System Impedance.

Thank you for your advice.
Checked this web site but something does not match.
0 dBm would mean 108 dBuV, +10 dBm (my actual setting) would mean 118 dBuV!! Very strange.
I wait one friend with his meter and we will check better.
Anyway, I confirm this modulator is very good and stable.

What else were you expecting ?

What it means? It seems very difficult that such modulator can output 118 dBuV and more. Setting at +20 dBm it would be 128 dBuV!! It is a non-sense. It is a value that you can provide from a power amplifier. Maybe.

Well, since you have not provided the manual, I can only relate to the one recommended by others. The Triax device (link to manual supplied earlier by RolfW) confirms their output is adjustable in single 1 dB steps from 95dBuV to 65dbuV..

You could always call Technomate, they might pick up the phone on a Sunday.
