Terrestrial modulator

So, this situation is not a problem. This modulator perfectly works, no issues.
My question was just to understand how it works. As the default value (0 dBm) provided such low signal, I raised up to +10 dBm and it is all ok now.
I only wanted to know the same values in dBuV, that's all.
Hoping to get the meter during next week so I can try. Thanks

Checked this web site but something does not match.
0 dBm would mean 108 dBuV, +10 dBm (my actual setting) would mean 118 dBuV!! Very strange.
I wait one friend with his meter and we will check better.
Anyway, I confirm this modulator is very good and stable.
The calculator is not wrong, 0 dBm into 75 ohm load = 108.75 dBuV, add 10 dB it would equal 118.75 dBuV.

Or value in dBm + 108.75dB = Value in dBuV

No matter where they bought it, Technomate is closed as stated on Sat/sunday and bank holidays. Email TM and Ryan may or may not get back to you.

Not saying that calculator was wrong, but something is wrong for me.
This modulator provides output between -10 dBm and +20 dBm, it would mean between 98 dBuV and 128 dBuV. More powerful than any power amplifier in a central setup for a big building!
In such situation I would note a booming signal creating saturation and strong interference issues on most other frequencies, not possible.
As I said, I will check with a meter.
 
No it's right, your looking at micro volts, that's .000001 of a volt.

1 uV = 1 millionth of a volt (.000001)

-10 dBm = 98.75 uV or .00009875 Volts, +20 dBm = 128.75 uV or .00012857 Volts, all measured into a system impedance of 75 ohms.

As it is not possible that such device provide 128 dBuV I'm looking for real dBuV value.

Tested with a KWS meter today.
This modulator provides output signal between about 75 and 105 dBuV.
In its default position (displayed as 0 dBm) there are 85 dBuV, so when I raised up to +10 dBm it was 95 dBuV, too high.
Having the meter here at my home, I carefully completed all setup.
I choose a totally free UHF channel and set the modulator output level at about 75 dBuV (-10 dBm, lower position), more or less the same as all other TV channels coming from the antenna.
Now the modulator output is perfectly mixed with all other terrestrial muxes.

What are the resolution and frame rate options when downscaling from 4K?
 
Not tested 4K input yet.
In full HD I noted that it accepts 25 and 30 fps, both perfectly locked and RF modulated.
 
A test may in order (somebody with two combos) ?
Yes it would be interesting to see a comparison between an original broadcast transport stream (or any challenging video) and a transport stream recorded from the output of the modulator. If there's any FTA 50fps 4K content on satellite then that will do for initial downscaling comparison purposes.

This weekend's MotoGP on Servus or the British F1 next week would make for a good comparison of HD to HD. I can provide some video clips if required.

Servus doesn't have a 4K transmission, unless you know different.
I would probably use the NASA channel as a starter so no requirement for video clips.
There is also Youtube which has a wealth of 4K , and some 8K content for experimenting but I would expect a satellite channel to have fewer issues / less throttling down the line, better still a raw outside broadcast.

Has anyone located the manual with page of specifications ? I'm hesitant to look through the Technomate website after last week's hack.

Modulator output is connected to my Dreambox DM920 and Vu+ Duo4KSE receivers, image is Openatv 7.1 in both.
Selecting AAC audio in the modulator there is no sound, only video in signal received. Tried with all possible bitrates.
No problem selecting MPEG audio, just used that from last June.
Could be any codec issue in this image? Any idea? Thanks.

My Technomate one will not pass AAC only MPEG sound..
 
So, are you saying there is only the item in the menu but it does not work?
 
Make a recording and open it in VLC, then look at the codec details to see if there is an AAC stream. What do the specs in the manual say? I expect PCM stereo only.
 
How can I make a recording if I have no signal?
When I switch audio to AAC in the modulator menu, I get only video in the receiver but no sound. So I would record just video.
But I don't know if the issue is in the modulator (AAC does not work), or in the receiver (it has not the right codec and sound stay muted). Good question to which I'm not able to reply.
