Does anyone know if analogue terrestrial tv can be encrypted, if so has any tv service done it?

Hello,
In spain, canal plus used to scramble analogue film channels. The reciever used a key,the key had a small chip in it.Effectively it was a card. Not sure if they are still doing so. It was a type of nagra, I think.

Somebody else may know more.

I'm pretty sure that it can, the french Canal+ channel on analogue terrestrial has been encrypted for years, unless that's a misunderstanding on my part. I forget what system it's in though.

Canal+ in Spain is scrambled some of the time - normally for films and sport. I believe it is some sort of nagra system. Interestingly the DTT version is scrambled at the same time though my (UK) Thompson receiver has on at least one occasion ignored this and continued to show the program!

Nagravision is the word you're searching for ;)
