Advice Needed Testing a 36v motor possible ?

Hello,

I have recently acquired a 36v h-h motor however don't own a positioner and am reluctant to purchase one until I'm sure the motor works.

Anyone have any documentation or diagrams on how to build or test a h-h motor without the positioner ?

I have done some reading and see putting 36v is not possible as this won't do anything.

Or alternatively if anyone is in the Bracknell area and would like to lend me a positioner for testing it would be much appreciated.

BTW it is a Jaegar 128 motor (128)
 
Mark! You better show picture of your motor. Maybe it is actuator? Open the cover and you will see something like that ActuatorConnections.640.webp Where it is written "Motor Connections" just connect car battery, if motor is alive than everything OK.

I did read they could be moved with a 12v battery somewhere.

It is 100% a motor.

I see, this is definitely Motor! And nice one. I do not think it could be broken, unless it was not in the water for several years :rolleyes:. So, look for positioner and connect to installed motor, should work. BTW, there is nothing wrong in buying second-hand positioner. But even if new that will not cost a fortune.
 
I used a 12v battery, borrowed from a house alarm, to test a 36v Jaeger 1224.
Just attach wires to the M=, and M-, or M1, M2, connections, then to the +, -, of the battery, and the motor should move, just switch the connections round to move it back.

Two car or lawn tractor battery's work even better in series.

And some of the newer cordless drill battery's have enough DC power to move it also.

I have one of those Jaeger motors on my second (80cm) dish. It has worked flawlessly for 10+ years - which has amazed me as it has collected a lot of dirt over the years and I have never bothered to look after it.

My standard 12" motor on my main dish has caused me many a headache over the years - packed up again recently and I had to take it apart to fix.
 
I would have loaned you one of my old "C" band receivers but it would have been a very very very long drive.

Do you also have 120/220V converter to run receiver in Europe? ;)
I think that it is possible to find positioner on the second hand market for relatively small money.
 
Yeh have bidded for a few on a well known auction site.
