Anyone know of a plug-in for a DM500s running PLi Jade image that will verify proper operation of the internal card reader sci0? eg something that just displays the ATR for an inserted smartcard would be good. I am beginning to think my reader just doesn't work and want to prove/disprove this.

The CCcamInfo plugin along with CCcam will tell you if your card is being read. Check under the entitlements menu.

If the channels are black then the card is not being properly read. I've read a few posts where people had found that the cable connection from the card reader to the motherboard was was not correct or poorly terminated. Have a search, its worth checking out.

Tried all that. I just get messages saying no card inserted or card not recognised.

My DM500S has the card reader mounted directly on the main board, so no cables to go wrong.

My problem is I don't know if it is telling me it isn't detecting any card, or just not the one I'm putting in (an NDS-based Smartcard).

I would have thought there would be some sort of device driver mounted within the O/S. If I put an ordinary smartcard in, is there any script I can run from the commandline to issue an instruction to sci0 to simply reset the card and read in an ATR?
