So threw caution to the wind ...and temporarily fixed the Cband lnb to the focus ..
Just a rough fix and no tweaking ..
Signal levels are similar to those received with the Gibby 1.2 ..
As yet no hits ...but a growing string of Bad R/T packets..
I'll watch and wait ..and let the wobble do its thing ..
I could be well off target ..though I suspect this is going to produce much the same results as previously on the Gibby.

Systemsat sold me a load of duff cctv cameras etc, so I am not surprised at the quality of the dishes.

Systemsat must think we are all chumps!

He was one of the suppliers I emailed trying to get intrest in the 21ghz ka/ku lnb, he told me there wasn't a market for it! So it was quite nice to see him being made a fool of.

I think they deliberately make the dishes like that, so if you can get it on the wall and working then you would have had to modify it, and thus making it impossible to return the item.

When I ordered some ir lamps for my cctv, it never appired, logged a complaint with the bay, and he then six weeks later sent it out.

I will never give him a penny of my money every again.

Hmm ....
just snagged a plane at 25E
What did I change ?
Well ..nothing really except the plate ..
I borrowed the pride plate from Christina ..and it looks to more responsive now ..
but early days ..and this _could_ be a fluke ..
???

Have you tried sliding it in and out a bit? I found that the plate position made 1-2dB difference with the best performance about 10mm from the front of the feed.

Yep ..tried the sliding and repositioning back when the Gibby was up ..
The only real improvement I've witnessed so far is the introduction of the 'tuned' pride plate ..
Something to think on ..
Perhaps if it were possible to produce a plate 'tuned' to the lower end of C ..
?
Now theres a thought ..
How would one go about it SB ?

I tried to make one out of lower loss material but totally failed but that was probably a calculation error or an incorrect assumption of the waveguide cut off frequency etc. If you assume the plate you have is set for mid-band, you could make one the appropriate percentage bigger?

Pride plates of course are very thin and basically perspex with tuned copper tape elements stuck on ..
:D

It could just be of course that the inclined wobble of the Inmarsat ..just happened to pass the optimum declination setting of the dish ..
Nonetheless I feel confident that this project may yet prove its worth..

Still catching occasional T packets without errors ...but as yet planes not appearing on the map ?
Odd that ..

I guess the optimum wobble point is now passed ...
not had a hit for over 30 minutes now..
My conclusion ...
The plate helps ...but positioning is critical ...and the larger the dish ...the higher the gain and the less it can 'see' on account of the narrower beamwidth.
..and with a wobble of almost 3 degrees ...this is proving to be the main problem.

So ..today modded my last C1PLL ...
I now have 4x TXCO modded C1PLL ..
This one will hopefully be mounted on Christina along with the ESX pair ..
The Idea being that I will be able to park Christina at 25E when not in use ...and I can then switch between The 1.4m dish and Christina with a simple A/B switch ..
The 1.4 definately does perform ok with a pride plate installed ...but only for periods of the day when I have 'target' on this very inclined Inmarsat at 25E ..
Christina has the ability to track the bird manually so I will be able to use 25E for most of the satellites oscillation.
Best I can do really..

So ..I have reached a point where I can cover 3 inmarsats for varying periods of the day ..
Usually have at least something on PP ...
but am only able to cover 1 T packet channel per bird/dongle atm ..
I seem to remember that it was possible to employ 2 vxos ...thus 2 frequencies per dongle under SDR# ..
Can someone who has done this already ...walk me through it ?

I can't remember the procedure but I followed the recipe from near the end of this page JAERO under the title 1.0.4.3 C Band goes dual channel.
That also has a link to the RTLSDR page which describes & links to the 2 VFO plug in. E-mail if you need more.

Fantastic work VS

Like S band I'm struggling to remember the exact procedure , but the extra VFO are available in the plug in section of the SDR # page and then you need a second install of virtual cable.

There is something in the back of my mind that you also have to put an extra line in the SDR# set up script....I'll see if I can find it.

BTW don't forget ,if you are happy to supply PP with a continuous feed I should be able to get you a free licence :O)
