Haven't had a good moan for a while, but wrestling with today's Sunday Times reminds me that life continues to have it's irritations.

Why, oh why do Publishers find it necessary to create Advertising material that looks just like the bona fide cover of the section of Newspaper you actually want to read? And why, have wrestled it free, screwed it up and thrown it on the floor in a fit of pique, do they take it further by adding yet more cunningly disguised bumph in the middle of a section?

Then they repeat the whole exercise with several other sections, for good measure.

Drives me bonkers.

However.....being a grumpy old man you'd guess I'd have a few pet hates......black bin bags which have that stupid thin plastic 'string' attached to the bottom so you can tie the bag up....I end up treading on it and throwing it in said bag....
 
Well, as you asked. ... Those irritating anti vandal bog roll holders with the opening at the base so that you have to stick your hand into the unknown. ... (plenty of scope for innuendo here) and scrabble to try to find the end because you can't seeder which way the roll is wound.

People in France who insist on paying by cheque. Especially irritating in the lunch queue when they order a sandwich and drink for 5Euro. .. and then the cheque book comes out. Suppose that's why they need a 2 hour lunch break

The super mega size rolls of toilet paper in a 36 count bag at a very good price, that I just bought at the mega Costco store 60 miles from here, that don't fit the standard sized holder as they are 1/3 too large to fit.

Having to unroll it by hand and have it fall and roll out into the hallway, while holding the free end, good thing I swept the floor before.

Now where to find a mega sized toilet paper holder?

Kids toys get me going, endless cable ties, screws, and that vine twist just the hold the darn thing in the box.

Paying my tax bill, that gets on my tits too, especially when i thought i'd paid all of last years tax last year :(

They have such a lovely way of asking you and give you great options of how to pay :mad:

This. However - I always thought this was due to the banks being reluctant to trust people with less than stellar banking records with even a debit card, so it might not always be by choice :)

I always thought it was the €8 or so per month that French banks charge for the card that put people off
 
I must confess to being totally confused by the contract I signed with Credit Mutuel a few years back. I do pay just over €5 a month in charges and if I use my card to withdraw cash at an ATM other than my local branch (and that includes branches of the same bank) I am additionally charged €1.50.

Incidentally my local branch is open one morning and two afternoons a week....
 
Confusion! Yup. I think I'm only allowed to draw €150 - per week (or maybe per month) with CA. And, of course, lots of French businesses run like a franchise so CA in dept 49 isn't the same bank as CA in dept 56
 
I've mentioned this one before, but trying to get into a pack of Tangerines just now means it's worth another airing:

Those plastic mesh nets that fruit commonly comes in nowadays.

Need scissors to open and the act of so doing results in the work surface and floor being covered in tiny bright orange shreds of plastic.

Yes, I live in department 50 but the border with Mayenne (dept 53) is only 500 metres south of me. Therefore I usually cross over into Mayenne to shop. Years ago we tried to pay a cheque in at our (non) local CA, much head scratching ensued and filling in of forms in triplicate and I think a charge that was probably half the value of the cheque
