I wasn't sure where to put this post but here goes.

I have a couple of Daewoo DS608s which were absolutely brilliant in operation before prompted for a channel search. :-Nooo

I used to use them on installs owing to the 'analyser' menu which was quicker for the customer to acknowledge than the meter when it came to suggesting a new aerial was in order.

The technical side of the issue

And a good description of what happened in many homes last year

Now they might as well be consigned to the bin as no information seems to exist on a full factory reset beyond the software and back panel button. On both machines, giving them an intermittent jump from the mains does bring back the OSG and signal reading within the 'preference' menu, but this is lost as soon as the 'cancel' button is pressed (starting the Easytune setup, at the root of the tuner/modulator lockup)

Does anyone here know of any trick to give them some life again, if only to use the signal meter part ?

Open it, find the eeprom chip (not main flash where firmware is stored). Check the manual for that chip. Some of them can be reset if certain pin shorted to ground.

Thanks

Nearest to the eeprom of this box is a Spansion chip

Details of something similar (not the S29AL016W90A101 that is on the PC:cool:

No reset point that I can see on the board, and tbh the distance of the pins is rather too close to short out with a needle - there are 24 pins each side of the IC, each one is less than 0.5mm apart. Even reading the chip number was a task under good light.

Btw, main chipset of the box is ST
