Here's something rather dull that I found:

A sheep farmer was puzzled about the disappearance of some sheep on his farm. After a few weeks the farmer decided to put up an electric fence. About a week later, this is what he found!
Now, we've all heard of people being eaten by snakes & I bet most of us have said, "If a snake tried to eat me, I'd blah, blah, blah & get away.

Well, this is a Python and they're extremely aggressive, and have a few teeth that they use to hold their prey while they wrap around them and then constrict.

Could you get away if this one bit you and held on with its "few teeth??

Yikes!!! That scares me just looking at the pictures!!! :eek:
 
Quite scary. Was this in the UK?
BTW: Is it legal to setup an electric fence, and what is the normal voltage?
Just concerned for harmless animals and human beings who might not be aware about the danger of touching the fence.
We had a case a couple of years ago of a farmer who got sick of being robbed constantly of his sheep, ended up with killing one of the thieves.
Was acquitted only last week.

In the UK, Electric Fence systems are frequently powered from 12v Lead-Acid Batteries (although the control systems create energy pulses that don't necessarily relate to 12V!).

Such systems conform to well-established BS/EN/ISO standards and take into account risks to "third-parties".

There are, if I recall correctly, a number of classes of system and their applicability depends upon the location and purpose of the fences.

eg In UK the main aim is to corral livestock, generally no bigger than a Cow.

In eg South Africa, not only do fences need to corral livestock (which may be quite large) but they also need to protect against predators.

I used to be involved in enforcing Electrical Safety legislation in the UK until retiring several years ago, so the fine detail now escapes me!

Oh, by the way, the pics of the Python won't be from the UK! Our reptiles consist of a small number of species of lizard, plus Grass Snakes and small Vipers (Adders). That's it (Fortunately!!).
 
Now that's a BIG mouth. With dislocatable jaws if I remember correctly.

Just by chance I picked up one of these from Chimay last week

Runs off two AA batteries and gives out quite a belt (yes of course I tried it). Effective though, but bigger flies need a couple of zaps.

I got one of them a couple of years back, but got a little over-enthusiastic chasing a fly and ended up smashing the grid... :o

Still, the leftovers mad a great toy taser... :-rofl2

When I was an Apprentice, we used to connect a hand-powered Megger to a piece of Veroboard which had every alternate strip wired together and was smeared with jam.

Flies never stood a chance.

As the gopher, I had to crank the handle, of course (In between fetching coffees .......)
 
Pythons have reticulated jaws which means they can literally 'un-hinge' the joint so allowing them to open their jaws much wider than any other animal. Also because their teeth are backward facing it is very difficult for prey to escape, it would actually have to go further into the mouth to unhook its self and this would only be possible if the snakes jaws opened even wider.

Escape from a snake is therefore almost impossible.
