Over forty years ago, Grumman was given the opportunity to design from scratch, a device that could allow two humans to safely land and take off from the moon.
This site gives you the details of just how much went into the tin-can, in the run up to the anniversary of the first successful landing next month. What appears to have been forgotten is that Apollo10 and 11 launches were just two months apart, Apollo 10 astronauts came to within 9 miles of the surface in Snoopy, before returning to earth.

Of particular interest is the Systems page, which contains the mechanical and electrical blueprints.
