The missing drive key slot

I usually finish things off with about half a bottle of scotch.....But if the gear had a key slot there should have been a key and key way......Right????

Exactly the puzzle that I had, no sign of a keyway on the shaft only one on the gear

Maybe the gear is used in other saws that need one, it may have been just a press fit, it would be nice to see a second saw like this to see what's what..

Oh well back to the second half of that scotch.
