LOL, watched the programme and am impressed by their choice. This is only the second time that a succeding actor is older than the actor he's replacing. And by a whopping 25 years!

(The last ime an actor was older than his predecessor? It was Colin Baker who is 6 years older than Peter Davison).
 
No idea who Peter Capaldi is, but he HAS to be better than that waste of space Matt. Hes been a disaster in the role for me, Ive lost interest as hes killed the role.
 
About time they went a little older, looking forward to seeing him in action, let's hope for some slightly better story lines and perhaps stories that last more than one episode and don't have Daleks or Cybermen in them.

A very brave choice I think, considering the popularity of Matt Smith (excluding AS of course). Good luck to him....
 
Matt did improve a lot in the last year, but this was probably down to the storylines as much as his acting prowess.

Now, which assistant(s) will Capaldi get ?
 
Well I have to join the club of one I have never heard of him.
I never like the new ones but after a while they grow on you.It has never been the same since.

Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker were my favs but i do like Mr Capaldi.
 
William Hartnell was totemic. Cannot be surpassed.

Grumpy old man with a white wig (I thought it was his own hair until very late in the series). As a product of that era he's probably my favourite as well

Redone - very well - by Peter Cushing in the two movies, though any mention of him playing a timelord screws up the regenrative timeline for the affon.... afonish....anals.
 
Hmm, I thought Peter Cushing was a bit too doddering in the films.

Let us not forget Richard Hurndall who played the first Doctor in the episodes The Five Doctors. I recently discovered that he died shortly after the episodes were shown and may not have been paid by the Beeb before he died.

He could be, as the scripts included help from his 'assistants' , which included the likes of Roy Castle, and Bernard Cribbins.
