Thinking of a new technomate box

Analoguesat, we know the technomate has a sensitive tuner but the question is, have you ever tested the tm 5402 m3 against any of the other mentioned receivers?
No - my days of buying numerous receivers are long over. I run a receiver until it either

breaks down
or
annoys the hell out of me so much it gets cheerfully thrown into the recycling skip at the local landfill.

It has been alleged elsewhere that the Xcruiser is an imitation of the Formuler. However, the Xcruiser appears to be the receiver to beat so far as tuner sensitivity is concerned after beating the Octagon, till the superiority of the Formuler's tuner is confirmed.

Recently bought the TM5402 M4 and very happy with the purchase. I updated it to the latest TM firmware so everything is now up to date.It was bought to replace a previous Technomate receiver which gave me great service throughout the years. Tuner sensitivity is excellent on low signal transponders so pulling in satellites right across the arc.

My main objective was reliable motor control which the M4 delivers. The other consideration was reliable PVR operation which I now have including pausing live TV. I have to say for a price of Euro 100 plus vat I have no complaints about this receiver. If the 7 day EPG comes along later that will certainly be an added bonus.

I wasn't in the market for a 4K enabled receiver so the HD and SD are sufficient for my needs. All round the receiver set up was quite straightforward. I'm using USALS for convenience at the moment but an initial look at Diseq 1.2 and it seems to work fine. The receiver relatively cool so that is a good sign. All said I think I made a good purchase for the price I paid.

So your on the latest official TM software and pleased with it ? No more updates on the patched firmware so good on you if your happy not running the patched firmware.

This M4 bares very little in common with the M2, M3 etc its a Technomate yeah but only really in name.

Are more official updates forthcoming?

So what are the downsides to M4 against the list of previous models you listed off

It's a common mobo and chipset used buy other stb manufacturers for this type of box, TM has adapted it with the main aim the server 40 patches.

I never said it had downsides i said it had little in common with the previous 5402 range.

So my initial findings were correct. Basically it does what it says on the box. That’s exactly why I bought it. So far it’s doing the job so for the reasons I highlighted in the OP, anyone considering a TM5402 M4 purchase I’d recommend it on this basis, low threshold tuner and reliable motor control being the main two.

Can someone try to compare the tuner of the tm5402 M4 against the Octagon sf 8008 on the weak signals? So far it has been said the tuner is good but no comparison has been made against another known good tuner. When it beats the Octagon then we take it from there to the Xcruiser and so on.

Very expensive HD only box if you take out the server 40 option on the latest firmware.

So many bugs with this box mostly covered here

Your the first owner of the M4 to mention the low threshold tuner. What are you comparing it to ?

Well I’m looking at the comments here too. Technomate 5402 M4

When you are saying it’s an expensive HD only receiver what are you comparing it to. Most of the “cheap” HD receivers won’t do motor control reliably. Most of the bugs highlighted in that thread you referenced have been ironed out.

I’ve zero interest in the Server 40 “extras” so for what I paid and what I got I’m happy enough so far. I’ve a 12 month warranty to cover any failures in the meantime.

All I’m doing here is sharing my own experience with this receiver. If I do come across any issues with it I’ll be only too happy to share them too.

It is difficult to believe one who claims a receiver has a sensitive tuner where he did not test it against a known receiver with a sensitive tuner. let us try to justify the claims we made on these boxes as many rely on some of these posts to make their choices. Such claims without anything to back it up is not good enough.

I was purely commenting on a purchase I made which I am happy with. That is allowed here I assume.

The purchase was made to replace an old Technomate which served me well over the years and that alone was a good enough reason to stay with the Technomate brand.

I don’t possess endless supplies of receivers to supply comparison data as others seem to have but I have managed to tune to transponders on a number of other satellites which were previously unavailable to me. That’s a good enough reason for me to recommend this model.

I’m sure any potential Technomate TM5402 M4 purchaser will not be hanging on my every word nor anyone else’s for that matter. Remember this is a personal opinion post and others will have their own too. I’ve given mine and I’ve nothing further to add at this time but I will report back if that changes. For now I’m heading off to enjoy my purchase.

There are mentions of good sensitivity in this thread:

I can see the latest firmware upgrade dated 10/09/21 has ironed out a number of bugs I experienced with the TM5402 M4. They are certainly listening to feedback from owners which is good to see. I have to say this was definitely a good buy in my case.

Would it be possible to if any TM5402 M4 owner could check out TP 12130 V on Badr 26e. I couldn’t get better than a 49% signal quality last week but managed 52% this week which locked a clear picture on Dubai One. I’m not sure if this is down to the latest official TM firmware I applied this week.
