I have customers in Donegal, NW Ireland.
They are Slovakian speakers and are currently using Astra 1 19.2e for UPC transmissions, with a very good signal strength as you might expect. They are using zone 2 dishes at present.
At the end of this month UPC will be transmitting their Czech/Slovak language services only from Thor 6, 0.8w on the K2 beam, and leaving Astra1.
According to Lyngsat and Satbeams they lie outside the footprint, in Buncrana, but only just.
Does anyone know what size of dish would be needed, if it is even possible, to receive this satellite package.
I had suggested 1m but that was for Digi TV on Intelsat at the same spot. Satbeams suggests 1.3m at least.
All suggestions gratefully considered,

Thanks

Laminas 1.2M fibre dish with an IBU, on a Clarke Tech USALS motor, covering 57E - 24.5W to an Octagon SX88. Displayed on a 20" Dyon LED TV.

Seperate 80 cm dish on 28E with a Humax Freesat for SWMBO.
Free Sat V8 meter. Sony Bravia 46" LCD, Sony BluRay and Home Cinema.
My Location
Normandy, France
I'm receiving the K2 beam here in Northern France at 91 strength 93 quality on a 1M dish in moderate rain. How about something like a Triax TD110? I guess it depends on their tuner sensitivity.....maybe pairing the dish up with an Inverto Black Ultra would help too!

You are well inside the footprint there though. But thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks, maybe given your reception I may be able to use a TD110 or a 120cm dish to get this sat at my location.
Where do you get hold of the Black Ultra LNBs ?

Az Box Premium.
Triax 110 cm dish motorised.
Black Ultra LNB. Nov 2011 DrD F15.
My Location
Dundalk Ireland
In Dundalk 1.1 m Triax dish, Dark Gold LNB, AzBox no trouble with K2 beam 55 to 60%, even in wind and rain. For comparison T2 beam 11.862 H BBC News on Thor 5 is 95%, I think I have my system lined up well. I read somewhere that signals from 1 West fall off sharply between east and west coast of Ireland so good luck with your efforts.

If a 120cm is within budget I'd go for that. It's chucking it down here at the moment and the K2 beam channels are beginning to break up so not quite as comfortable as I'd thought. The 7/8 FEC used on most of these TPs doesn't help either.

I got my Black Ultra twin from Ebay for £22 + £2.50 p+p but don't see this deal listed any more. They are widely available though so should be easy to get, check out some of the site sponsors.

Not to sound like stating the obvious but surely you have test kit which you could experiment with yourself bearing in mind that you say they are your "customer" and you are both from the same area. Most of the hobbyists on here have at least two or more stb's/dishes/lnb's and they are not earning a living from it.The only way to guarantee that you receive the bird in question is to set up the kit on site.I am receiving BADR 26e on a TD110 while my neighbour six doors away can't.If he asked me the same question and bought his kit on the basis of my answer can you imagine what he would call me.

Yes well... I do have all the equipment but if you look at the Satbeams website for this particular beam, then where I live is within the footprint (just) but the people who want the service fall just outside the footprint (a town called Buncrana in Donegal)
Now, I could buy a 1.2m dish, and maybe it might work at my location but fail 15 miles up the road.
Anyone want an unwanted 1.2m dish then?
And yes, I am a (very much part time) installer for filthy cash. But it's more of a hobby with tiny financial rewards.
I was just asking in case anyone else outside the footprint may have had some success with this particular beam.

I can get an Andrew Valu Star 1.2m dish, brand new for £50.
Are they any good? Price seems very good!
