always a good sign that streaming wont be the defacto delivery method for a while yet. Would be ironic that those in poor broadband areas have to get a star link system to deliver content in the future

Exactly a month ago, the Nordic satellite operator Space Norway announced the order for a new communications satellite, Thor 8, for the orbital position 0.8°W. Now, the operator of the future satellite has concluded an agreement to lease capacity.

All capacity on the Thor 8 satellite for the Central and Eastern Europe region has been ordered for the entire lifetime of the satellite by the competing satellite operator Intelsat, which will resell this capacity to its customers in the region.

Thor 8, Space Norway's new satellite, which is due to be launched in 2027, will be equipped with capacity for two transmission beams. One will be focused on Central and Eastern Europe, the other on the Nordic countries. In other words, similar to the Thor 6 orThor 7 satellites . Thor 8 will also offer extensive and flexible capacities for data communication services for government and commercial clients.

Satellite operator Intelsat provides its services to customers such as Slovak Telekom, which provides services to its Magio Sat and DIGI SK customers, as well as to Telly and MAGENTA TV viewers in the Czech Republic. Intelsat also provides capacity to other customers such as Digi TV in Romania and other broadcasters. Intelsat currently operates its own satellite Intelsat 10-02 at 1°W . It is purchasing additional capacity from operator Space Norway. " Intelsat's commitment to Thor 8 represents a significant milestone in our strategic, long-term partnership with Intelsat at 1°W. Looks good and will almost certainly mean TV and radio distribution using satellite aimed for the Nordic countries will be available for quite some time yet.
 
I hear most of the Thor 8 launch budget comes from Norwegian Military and they will be using it.

Allente/Viaplay (or whatever they are calling themselves today) have contractual obligations to continue broadcasting via satellite for quite a few more years to come, so unlike Sky UK, they'll continue long after Sky is gone from satellite.
 
I wonder how fast the Nordic beam will drop off as you go past East Anglia.
