Part of a huge rocket that launched China’s first module for its Tianhe space station is falling back to Earth and could make an uncontrolled re-entry at an unknown landing point.

The 30-metre high core of the Long March 5B rocket launched the "Heavenly Harmony" module into low Earth orbit on 29 April from Wenchang in China’s Hainan province.



The Long March 5B then itself entered a temporary orbit, setting the stage for one of the largest ever uncontrolled re-entries. Some experts fear it could land on an inhabited area.

I was out on the house boat when the last one came down, it was quite a show, and I kicked myself for not having anything to record it, as there (at the time) was no cell service, so I didn't bring the phone....Darn, it was good fireworks.

Maybe I'll go out this week and this time bring the phone, if it comes my way again.

The bloody thing only missed the Maldives by about 30 miles.....
 
Better something like that hits solid ground since the metal/chemical content of a discarded rocket could poison the aquatic neighbourhood for years.

Some say it's all hypergolics......
