Trees!!!

Hi guys,

New to the forum and looking for some help/advice. I currently have sky+ and would love to upgrade to HD, however, every spring/summer I loose my signal completely due to there being a line of tall (protected) trees right in the line of my dish. I've had sky out 4 times and every time am told there is nothing they can do and that I'll just have to make do... Not ideal when I pay so much out to sky every month for a service that they cannot provide! Anyway... I've been browsing the web for ideas and found the 'inline amplifier' and am wondering if it would be any use? Or if anyone else has any ideas of what I can do to get my signal to work all year round!

The inline pre amp will do nothing to improve the overall signal. Item is used to compensate for signal losses on a long cable run for example. The only option you have is to consider mounting the dish for a better line of sight. Try a local independent installing company who are willing to think outside the box.

I have thought of that but am being quoted upwards of £100 for a local engineer so was tring to get around that but it's looking increasingly like this is the only option. I'm guessing there are no signal boosters out there for this kind of thing at all then?
 
Afraid not.

£100 for a survey seems slightly high. I completed one at the weekend after 8 or so installation attempts from a large organisation and the callout was under £50.

Incidentally I managed to get a perfect line of sight for testing purposes.
 
I'll have another look around, maybe in some neighboring towns, I think the guy I spoke to was a bit of a cowboy so was put off him straight away. What would you normally suggest if you were faced with trees that are about 20 taller than the house and are basically lined up all the way down the street? I thought maybe fitting it to the bottom of my garden shed, however that would place it directly under the trees. Would that then make the problem worse for the vertical signal?

The elevation for 28E is approx 20 degrees at your location. The dish needs to be in a place where it 'see' the satellite in the azimuth direction, and has nothing of sufficient height to go above your 20 degree elevation angle. Two options, put the dish higher, or further away. or both maybe.
