Interesting that there were only about 1600 subscribers via satellite! Can't blame them for wanting to shut it down as YLE have been a bit short on cash for a while.

TV Finland will continue to be broadcast in Sweden as normal via digital terrestrial and cable where many Finns live.

Most expats these days use YLE Areena (the Finnish equivalent of BBC iPlayer) for Finnish programmes and this is now the recommended method.

The radio stations YLESat 1 and YLESat 2 have closed down on Asiasat 2, Intelsat Americas and Hotbird. They are now only available via Thor 5 in Europe.

A few years ago YLE closed down its short wave transmissions.

Of course there is still the Suomipaketti from Canal Digital (www.canaldigital.fi/tuotteet/suomipaketti/). It's not advertised and hard to find on their website these days. It is also not too cheap (currently about 13eur/month) and you need an address in Finland to subscribe and reception of the Thor 6 Nordic beam but does provide 13 terrestrial TV channels for about the same price as the ill-fated TV Finland.

Timo-w2s, can I stream constant live Tv from YLE Areena? If so can you give me a link, cheers.

I think only the radio stations are live, the TV programmes are only available as on demand streams.
