If it works then it works, I can't argue with that, but the general idea is to maximise the change of it working! Peersonally, I woulod miss out the diplexers all together, and use 2 cables instead, generally a much better idea.
If your freeview signal is good, out of the aeiral, then you can mangle it quite a bit, just depends exactly how good.
