Hi everyone. As many of you have already heard, TVP (Polish public broadcaster) have launched new FTA package on this freq:

ASTRA 1KR (19,2E)
(10,862 GHz, pol. H, SR: 22000, FEC: 5/6, DVB-S2/8PSK)

The big question, is this frequency on some kind of Spot Beam, which covers only Poland? Unfortunately, I'm not at home right now, so I can't check if there is some reception in Latvia... But will keep you posted...

According to SES it is indeed on a spotbeam. Ive never seen any mention of 1KR having a spotbeam, so Im doing some investigations.....

Receiption of this beam seems to be very difficult in the middle and west of Germany. This spotbeam has another quality than for example Astra 3A and 2D.

Im curious to know if receiption at your location is possible and if it is how big the dish needs to be.

SES never mentioned that this and other satellites have spotbeams onboard.

First reports are coming in from Latvia
And... it looks very promising.
One guy with 90cm dish is receiving good signal on this frequency. And other guy is receiving this transponder on his 1.8m (but, 19.2e is on multifeed, not on the center). Both are saying, that signal levels are strong. That's the all information I have right now.

I have reception reports from Riga (well, it's kinda West - the capital of Latvia), and other from Kuldiga (West).

_http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Krasta+iela&daddr=Kuldiga+to:Viesite&hl=en&geocode=FfLhZAMd3udvAQ%3B%3B&mra=ls&sll=56.776808,24.191895&sspn=2.986086,9.876709&ie=UTF8&ll=56.680374,24.642334&spn=2.993752,9.876709&z=7

Point A - Riga, Point B - Kuldiga, Point C - Viesite (where I live, but i'm not in home till next weekend)

OK, I have another report from my friend, who lives near my town - 90cm dish with Astra 19.2E on multifeed - signal is very strong. He is watching TVP HD right now.

So basically, we haven't got problems with this transponder. I'm very interested what's the situation on Estonia...

Just been looking at the artist pictures of the dish configuration of the Astra craft on the space.skyrocket.de site.

From educated guesswork Id say Astras 1KR, 1L, 1M & 1N are all candidates for spotbeams.

Astra 2A and 2C arent, 2B definitely does but its in use beaming into Nigeria....

Astra 4A does but again its in use into Africa....

Its an obvious way forward which Ive been predicting for years. Orbital slots are getting increasingly rare in the skies above Europe.

If you write all the numbers from 30W round to 40E then cross out any number where there is one or more satellite slotted theres not many "free numbers" left - and they will decrease further in the next couple of years when Arabsat slot a bird at 20E!

Regional spotbeams are an easy way of increasing the pool of frequencies available.

_http://www.the-media-channel.com/ claims SES said (today?) there would be further spotbeams on 1KR, 1L and 1M.

_http://www.heise.de/newsticker/Satelliten-TV-Ausstrahlung-Spotbeam-statt-Verschluesselung--/meldung/145401 at least confirms that spotbeams could also be produced with other Astra satellites, not just with 1KR.

Thast doesnt surprise me - the dish arrangements on 1L & 1M are similar to 1KR......

And eastern Europe is a rapidly expanding market....

This is odd, why keep these spot beams so secret until now? Aren't there other potential channels that want to limit their reception to a certain region?

Based to the translation of member sat-freak at _http://forum.dxtv.de/wbb/thread.php?postid=142256 this footprint had been shown at the press conference of TVP last Tuesday. SES Astra is still performing changes and thus this is not the official one. As he adds, some people in SW Poland using 60cm dishes with monoblocks aimed at 13E (somebody should tell them that there is a severe mismatch) have problems in getting the frequency.

While having same footpring in drawing, 1KR and 1L are not the same at all. Here using 2-2.5 meter dish, it's possible to get 1L, but still, no trace of 1KR.
