I asked a local, well known Installer (East Anglia) area, about setting up the 2 LNBs on a 80cm dish for me.

He commented that they find the spread is too great to receive a satisfactory reception, and recommend 2 dishes!

What do the forum members think?

Common enough question and the answer is that this should be fine.

It may be advisable to align the Dish to a median Azimuth around 23/24 deg, though. Makes the task very slightly more tricky, not having an LNB at the focus, but shouldn't be overly difficult.

Possibly your Installer isn't too confident of his abilities .......... ??!
 
An easy catch even with a 60cm. You can focal on 19e and offset 28e. The early TAS60 dishes use to be supplied with an offset bracket to allow Astra 2 reception without realigning the dish (whilst on Astra1).
 
On an 80cm 19E+28E, no problem. I'd tend to stick the dish on 23E ish, then both sats get the same chance, but each to his own I suppose.
 
I know there are all sorts of 'alignment' types of meters on the market. What do professionals use, especially when they are up a ladder? Does the alignment kit actually show which Sat they are onto?
 
Many hobbyists just use their receiver and a small TV, unless a decent second hand professional meter can be found cheaply, buying a receiver is the most economical way of doing it.

Though, the Satlook micro mentioned above is very good for the price though (about £270), and I can highly recommend it.

28 and 19 is a long reach
there is a toridal dish and because if its shape will pick up both with no problems.
i have seen 5 and 6 lnb's on one of these and using disc switching was able to pick up all without moving the dish.

looking at what a toroidal dish costs it is cheeper to get 2 --60 cm dishes and set up one 19 degrees and one at 28.
each dish is about 20 to 25 euro. each
the t90 runs about 170 pounds at some places.ralph
 
And most certainly no problem with the 80cm he mentioned he wants to use.
 
Rookie here; I just wanted to say I'm currently in the same situation as the original poster, and would like to know if the bracket I bought for this task works (in the attached photo, LNB for 19.2E is the one on the arm, LNB for 28.2E is on the bracket).

This bracket doesn't seem to be curved or anything and it comes with no manuals. When this is the case, exactly what can I use to align this second LNB properly? Should the center of this LNB also be looking at the dish's center?

And is this a better idea than setting my azimuth as so to point at around 23E? I'm completely new to this and so far the only luck I've had aligning this dish (unmounted as of now) is by adjusting the position until I picked up a decent enough signal from the LNB on the arm.

Sorry if I'm asking much for my first post :o

It doesn't look to be a brilliant bracket to be honest. As you say, there's no curve, and also there is no totally free sliding movement due to the 'gaps' in the slot. Having said that, you should be able to get it to work OK. Focus the dish on 19.2E, then adjust the offset for best signal on 28E

The LNB ideally should point to the dish centre, this can be achieved by missing out one of the bolts, so that it the LNB can be turned towards the centre (though experiment, you may not need to). Also you can adjust the LNB up and down by rotating the whole arm.


EDIT,

You are in Spain, so you want to focus on 28E and have 19E on the offset I think.

That would mean putting the bracket, so that it offsets to the other side.

Exactly correct Robbo the additional lnb for 19.2 E is on the wrong side currently.

The angle of reflection of the signal for 19.2 East will be on the opposite side hence the lnb will have to be situated at an angle 28.2 + 9 = 37.2 East of South whereas you currently have it set looking at a signal coming from 37.2 degrees East of South
 
True, once the bracket arrived I was shocked at the problems it could cause me; not only are there gaps, but I'm forced to have an LNB on the arm in order to actually use the bracket (as you can see in the photograph). It baffles me how someone could possibly charge 15€ for this piece of junk! Engel AC 7099 by the way, so stay well clear of it.

Correct, I am in Spain and aware that pointing at 28.2E would be the logical way to go as this would be the weaker signal and I would want this bang centre on the dish; trouble is I'm not even sure if I can "see" 28.2E from my garden (long story short, I'm aiming at a gap between my building and a neighbouring one and I can barely get 19.2E; 28.2E would be very fortunate).

I've checked with another topic on this forum and have calculated that the two LNBs need to be approximately 11cm apart, even if the offset one is not aiming at the centre of the dish per se.
 
Also, I'm curious as to whether I should be able to pick-up Eurobird 1 with the same LNB I'm using for the Astra 2's at 28.2E. I've heard Eurobird and Astra 2 are "co-positioned", but I don't know if me being closer to the equator would have an effect on that.

Don't see how you come to that conclusion that is dish and bracket dependant and is normally achieved by trial and error

They are referred to as that but are actually 0.3 deg apart but in the UK that does not make a great deal of difference but it does the further distance you are away from the intended footprint which thus increases the dish diameter necessary for reception and hence the focal alignment for reception of both
 
When setting up 2 LNBs, 28E and 19E in East Anglia, looking at the front of the dish, which LNB goes to which side?

28E on the left and 19E on the right.

Also, the 28E LNB should be slightly higher than the 19E one (which "reflects" to a lower effective elevation.
 
No problem at aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll. I've 3 LNBs on my dish. Ha ha. Hotbird. Arabsat (Nilesat) and (Sirus 4) Who says it'll be needed separate dishes. In ME people do it ‘coz for cutting some extra costs.
But the Arabsat one is slightly down in respect to the others and the Sirus 4 one is slightly higher than the rest.
