Neither are PAL or NTSC, both are 480i

my bad, sorry :)
Don't rely on these feeds though for football just last week the DAD-5 transponder was an empty carrier.

480i is just the resolution. It can be either PAL or NTSC. It's normally associated with NTSC whereas 576i is mainly associated with PAL.
The i means its interlaced scanning, displaying the different fields (odd lines for 1 second and then the even for another and vice versa).
PAL & NTSC is how the colour information is encoded.

480i = 640x480 interlaced scan
576i = 720x576 interlaced scan

Think about it mate NTSC and PAL are analogue.

Those with 480i though are likely to have 30fps frame rate. Can appear jerky on some TBs.

Yes that's often the case Captain. Switching from 50hz to 60hz on the receiver often helps.

NTSC & PAL can be either analogue or digital remlap but I see where you're coming from.

No sorry mate, DVB is either digital video with 25fps or video with 29.97fps whatever the resolution.

Actually I've seen broadcasts at half frame rate and double 15fps and 50/60fps.

Apologies. I must be getting confused, it's probably due to messing around with old mpeg encoders and getting my wires crossed :)

Analogue in Digital out mate I expect. ;)
