I am a total newbie to Satellite TV and this forum, so please be gentle with me!!!

I am moving out to Barbados next year and would like to still get UK TV.

In simple terms will it work, and what would I need?

Many thanks

Not by Satellite, no.

But why don't you stay here and take over my Dishes and I'll go to Barbados instead?

Welcome to the Forum!

They only way you could do it was to connect a slingbox or similar device to a broadband connection and place shift the pictures via fast broadband (at both ends)

I think you'll have to resort to using a Slingbox, or similar, to get your Brit TV over the Internet.

You'll need a reasonably fast download speed in Barbados and, more critically, a decent upload speed in the UK.

Will you still have relatives/friends in the UK who could host this for you?

EDIT - Damn too slow.

Tivu, that looks like a very definite no, which confuses me. Why are you so sure?
I met a guy at a computer fair here in the UK, from the Caribbean, where he reckoned he installed systems to pick up Astra with 2 - 2.5m dishes.

Is that not possible then?

By the way, I might be tempted by your offer................NOT!!!!!

Slingbox? Sorry please explain what that is and how it works.

Colin

Because the Footprint of the Satellites (ie Coverage) is chiefly over Northern Europe and, in particular, Astra 2D (which carries most BBC, ITV, Channel Four etc.) has a narrow Footprint largely confined to UK/RoI to the extent that even people in eg Spain can have great difficulty even with large dishes.

And finally, the Satellites are positioned at 28 East, which is way over the horizon from Barbados.

So your Computer Fair guy is talking out of his Coconut Shell.

Have a look at the Footprints here:
