Hello, I have recently moved to Sicily and desperate to watch UK TV. I bought a decoder from London for this reason and purchased a satellite dish of 240M and had that set up on my roof. After several different engineers I am now being told it's impossible to pick up the Astra 2D signal regardless of the size of dish, because Southern Italy is outside of the satellite's footprint.
Any help on this is much, much appreciated.
Mike

It is indeed out of footprint ............. and as some other UK services are even as I type being transferred to the new Astra 1N bird, the situation may get even worse.

Sorry.

Forget Astra 2D - you have no chance on a dish that size - you probably need around 4m if not more. (We know in the Rome area a 3.5m dish isnt big enough for 2D).

You should get some of the Sky UK pay channels at decent strength

Or try Sky Italia - many of the pay channels carry English soundtracks, although of course you wont get the main UK entertainment channels.

Hello,
Astra 2d can not be picked up in sothern italy.
we tried a 4 meter solid dish here in naples and it was impossible.
if you have a actice card no probeblem.
you will pick up almost everything .
itv1, ch4, E-4 CH5, but NO BBC1 AND BBC 2 and no free view.
to get there channels you will have to load then in the added channels and pick the one you want.
it will be in memory in the others section

hello,
they have been talking about this for the last 20 years.
bbc1 and bbc 2 could be received for the longeset time.
then they broke away from sky because they where charging bbc a lot of money every year and bbc broke away.
they moved to 2d and restricted the lobe and no more bbc.
there is nothing for sure that anything will happen.
perhaps there will be more hd or on demand or pay per view that we can not receive.
we will have to wait and see what happens if we loose for sure everything or just some things.
i suspecrt 50% of sky's money go to expats and a sudden loss will hurt their system big time.

Ralph, it is happening already - Do have a look at the Threads about 1N and you'll soon recognise that in the near future, the Encrypted versions of ITV Regions plus some other goodies will shortly no longer be available as they are going Free To Air on 1N.

Keep up Ralph - All widebeam standard def ITV1's will move in the near future - the ones on 11973V are imminent to move, and are already replicated on the 1N UK beam. 12402V will last a little longer but SES already have plans to move them as well.

The C5 family on the widebeam will be shut down on or around December 8th when they all go fta.
