BTW, Sarah and I went to Rennes. Although we both were glad we went, we felt a little deflated by the stone for the donors to medical research. It is supposed to be an eternal flame but looks a bit sad and unloved. The fortunate thing is that it's adjacent to the Commonwealth War Graves which, as we named our house 'Serendipity', I thought appropriate.

Well we've just been out for a walk up the moor in sweltering 18 to 19 C ............ I was almost tempted to take my vest off.

Good selection of birds around now: Buzzards up top, lots of nice thermals (upcurrents, not vests .............), Yellowhammers in the hedgerows, Oystercatcher, Lapwing and Curlew all in abundance.

I went the whole hog and got the BBQ fired up, just had a wonderful meal of charred animal flesh, lovely.

Just had a little BBQ out the back (using a BBQ tray thing), and I cooked my steak perfectly, my sausages on the other hand, well, they're not quite the best thing for barbecuing, they always have to be burnt before the innards are edible...

Oh, and BBQ'd smoked bacon, oooohhhhhhhhhhhh sooooooooo gooooooood!!!!

No, slowly braised with lots of onions, garlic, tomatoes and fresh herbs. Yum.

Just got back from a trip out to do a lovely walk in one of our remotest valleys - Bransdale.

Hardly saw a soul and the weather was again quite wonderful. Looking for slow-worms, adventurous Adders etc. but didn't see any interesting fauna at all in the end.

You need to be careful it doesn't dry out. Lamb is perfect for the barbecue because it has plenty of grease in it.

Today we had another barbecue. Everyone brings their own stuff. There were burgers, sausages, chorizo, sardines and home-made pizza.

Just been drinking my tea in the back garden, to escape the strident cyclonic noises coming from the cleaning lady (Yes, SWMBO likes to Vax on a Friday afternoon) and the sun is really fierce.

Although the temperature is (only) 16 deg C, my balding head started to crisp up nicely and I had to get the garden parasol for shade.

The much-vaunted volcanic ash isn't having any direct effect here.

Let's hope this decent weather stays with us ................. until October, for preference!

Since almost all aircraft are likely to be grounded for a few days at least, you can expect night-time temperatures to drop a couple of degrees lower than they normally would, plus the clearer skies in the daytime will mean more chance of a quicker tan.

No, I do not allude to that at all, old chap!! But in deference to CH's timely warning, the possible arrival of our charming postlady midmorning and the rather cool north easterly breeze blowing across the septic tank breather pipe, I will ensure my 'sensitive parts' are suitably wrapped up.

I'm not a G&T fan, in fact I'm not one for drinking much at all. Unless I get an invite to my English holiday home neighbours, where I get a glass of white wine large enough to bathe in.
