We all have those forgotten places like behind the cooker or under the fridge.

I've just been chopping veg to go with tonight's meal and a baton of carrot escaped.

Couldn't see it on the floor, so I dug out a torch and shone it under the fridge, where not only did I find said carrot, but also a fish finger.

Yes, a fish finger.

I've no recollection whatsoever of losing one, yet there it was. Covered in a thick layer of dust and utterly desiccated (but still smelling of fish!).

What weird and wonderful things have you discovered in those nooks and crannies that generally never see the light of day?
 
Whatever lives under my fridge eats all the stuff I drop on the floor, no need to go looking for it.
 
I install Kitchens/bedrooms furniture, mainly mouse dropping dust and bits of food are found when ripping the old kitchens out :eek:, I was once was fitting new for old built in wardrobes and found a vibrator :eek:, the lady of the house said it must have been the old tenants :D

Odd you should mention that now. On Tuesday morning I put a brace of partially defrosted kippers at the back of the cooker hob to warm up via the heat rising from the oven.
In my usual bleary-eyed state I tipped one kipper down behind the cooker. Hopefully by sliding the storage container out from below, it would be easy enough to find said kipper, but it had slid behind some water pipes and was impossible to dislodge.
I had to slide the cooker right out to retrieve it. So while I was there I cleaned away the usual accumulation of greasy dust and other unidentifiable objects.
That's another year's behind-the-domestic-appliance work done then. Wonder what's behind the fridge-freezer?
 
Not exactly behind the cooker but...

When we went down to house in France just after Christmas I had trouble relighting the pilot light on the boiler. I decided that I would have to partially dismantle it to check the thing out. This would be the first time in the sixteen years since I installed it that the top would be coming off.

There were lots of mouse droppings, as expected, but there, on the top of the water tank, was the desiccated husk of mouse. Goodness knows how long it had been there!

Next time I open my wallet I'll let you know....
 
In November I replaced my fridge/freezer and all I found when removing the old one was a few dust bunnies and one piece of raw pasta.
 
The perfect reason to have integrated appliances, no gaps for crap to accumulate in! :D
 
But a total bu**er to service!
 
As a long time bachelor (kicked my X out years ago) I found an easy way to clean the floor in the kitchen, (it also works under things) I put regular dish washing soap in the dish washer (don't try this at home kids, your wife may kill you) and go out an putter around in the barn, I then come back with the shop vac and use it to suck up all the suds, cleans the floor, the dishes and vacuums at the same time.
 
Last time I saw the floor under the fridge I had just moved house.
 
Not under the fridge but before I put a grid on the kitchen extractor fan we had a piedwagtail build a nest in the opening. You've guessed we didn't know until the fan went bang due to twigs preventing the blade from turning. We also had a piedwagtail build a nest on the axle of our landy and was most upset when we had to do the monthly shop; but was waiting patiently for us to come home. And yes the nest with the eggs was still there but unfortunately slightly cooked!
