Satellites are designed to transmit 20 trillion cat pictures across the web every second.* Today’s communications satellites, such as SES-6, support a payload of over 70 transponders that take digital TV and data from ground stations and transmit the content to dishes around the world. SES-6’s payload consists of 43 C-band and 48 Ku-band transponders (36 MHz equivalent), delivering HD video, internet and mobile services from its 40.5° West location in geostationary orbit, covering North America, Latin America, Europe and the Atlantic Ocean.
